Focus on Newton/Earlestown

Today's post, 29th September 2016, features 18 images from 6 contributors including a couple featuring that famous steam locomotive No.60103, which visited our locality yesterday.


WINWICK & BEYOND


First up today are five shots from Jeff Nicholls.  The first two are of DRS class 57, 57007 and D213 (40013) Andania - the former is towing the latter from Crewe to Bury for the ELR Diesel Gala where four class 40s will be on show. Te location was Newton -le-Willows and the date, 23rd September 2016.






This pic shows DRS class 57, 57307, at Earlestown on 23rd September 2016, on a crew training exercise, Crewe - Preston, via Earlestown and Newton-le-Willows. 








Pic number four from Jeff shows the same set up as in pic number 1 above, but from the reverse. 









Jeff's last pic features class 'A1/A3' 4-6-2, No.60103 Flying Scotsman leaving Newton-le-Willows having just passed under the M6. The pic is dated 28th September 2016.










The next pic is from myself, of the same locomotive No.60103, but taken just before Jeff's above, as the loco with support coach passed, slowly, through Newton-le-Willows station, on the same date.







The next four pics are from Alan Spencer's visit to the Isle of Man. The first shows Great Laxey Mine Railway narrow gauge locomotive, Bee, taken on 13th August 2016. 









Alan's second pic features Manx Electric Railway car No.2 supplied by G.F. Milnes in 1893. The picture date was the same, 13th August 2016.








Shot number three from Alan shows the Isle of Man Steam Railway 2-4-0T, No.10 G.H. Wood, built by Beyer Peacock of Manchester, in 1905 (named after the Company Director and Secretary, George Henry Wood). The pic is dated 12th August 2016. 







Alan's fourth and final pic was taken on the Snaefell Mountain Railway and shows car No.5 approaching the summit while car No.1 is descending. The pic is dated 13th August 2016.








The next three pics are from Colin Platt. His first was taken on a visit to the Kent &  East Sussex Railway and features ex SR (USA) S100 class, 0-6-0T No.30065, built for the USA Transportation Corps. The S100 class was shipped to the UK in 1943. The pic is dated 29th August 2016.







Next from Colin are two pics from the Bluebell Railway. The first one features ex SR (Urie/Maunsell) S15 class 4-6-0, No.847 (30847), at Sheffield Park on 2nd September 2016.








Colin's third pic is  a composite of two pics both showing an ex SR 0-4-4T tender locomotive, (one of Harry Wainright's 'H' class of the S.E.& C.R), No.263. The pic is also dated 2nd September 2016.







Bob McClellan  has sent in the following pic, taken at Newton-le-Willows on 28th September 2016. GBRf class 66, 66703 Doncaster PSB 1981 - 2002,  is pictured approaching the station with the lunchtime Drax PS - Liverpool empty biomass working.






David Wood winds up this latest blog with four pics. Up first is a Felixstowe -Ditton intermodal headed by Freightliner class 66, 66540 Ruby. The location was Runcorn Station and the date, 20th September 2016. 







Next from David is Freightliner class 66, 66598 with a Bredbury RTS - Folly Lane working also taken at Runcorn. This pic is also dated 20th September 2016.








David's third pic shows the above loco 66598 at Folly Lane on 20th September 2016.









The final shot in this post, also from David, was taken at Delph Lane, Rainford on 19th September 2016. Pictured is EWS (DBS) class 66, 66099 with a Knowsley FT - Wilton working.

Diesels and Electrics Only

Today's post, 16th September 2016, comprises thirteen photos from five contributors - no steam today.

WINWICK and BEYOND


First is a  pic from Alan Rigby taken at that station on Anglesey that ends "-gogogoch" (yes, that one). Aviva class 158, 158831 is pictured at the station on 30th August 2016. The working was Holyhead - Birmingham international.







Jeff' Nicholls has sent in the following three shots all taken at Preston on 31st August 2016. This first one shows another class 158, Northern Rail 158853 sporting a vinyl that reads "WE ARE NORTHERN WE ARE FEARLESS", The working was York - Blackpool.






Next from Jeff is DRS class 37 (Cumbrian Coast),  37401 Mary Queen of Scots, leaving Preston with a service to Barrow. The pic is dated 31st August 2016.








Jeff's third shot features EWS (DBS) class 66, 66128, on a working of Mossend-Clitheroe empty cement tanks. The pic is also dated 31st August 2016. Jeff adds that this service travels via Shap as the S&C is temporarily closed.
















The following three shots are also from Jeff Nicholls taken at Liverpool Lime St.  The first two feature GBRf class 87, 87002 Royal Sovereign  (in Caledonian Sleeper livery) arriving from Edinburgh on 11th September 2016 (left) and stopped at the buffers (right). The 'Railtour' was 'GBRf 15' four day tour.



The third shot from Jeff was also taken at Liverpool on the same date and shows GBRf class 59, 59003, preparing to work Liverpool - Doncaster.








The same class 87, 87002 heading the same 'Railtour', is pictured again, this one by John Smith. The location was Garswood and the date, 11th September 2016.



















Two shots above from David Wood are of the same 'binliner' working headed by EWS (DBS) class 66, 66175. His first (left)was taken at Dukes Wood Crossing and the second (right) at Rainford, Tees N.Y. - Knowsley FT. Both shots dated 12th September 2016.



The final three shots in this post are from Bevan Price. The first was taken at Northenden Junction on 19th August 2016.  EWS (DBS) class 66, 66192 is depicted on a Briggs Siding - Southampton aggregates working.







Bevan's second shot was taken on 5th September at Winwick and features DRS class 68, 68004 Rapid towing Freightliner class 66, 66545. The working was Carlisle New Yard - Crewe Basford Hall departmental service.







Finally, our thirteenth shot, and Bevan's third, was taken at Huyton on 11th September 2016. That class 87, 87002 is again featured on the 'GBRf 15' Railtour (Edinburgh - Liverpool L.S.).

More Foreign Pics

Today's post, 26th August 2016, follows on from the previous post by including more railway pics taken abroad. Eighteen pics are featured from six contributors.


WINWICK and BEYOND


The first nine pics are all from the UK. Up first are three pics from Geoff Monks all taken on the same date - 17th August 2016. The first features double heading DRS class 68s, 68004 Rapid and 68017 Hornet at Golborne, on the Daventry - Mossend 'Tesco Express'.







Pic 2 shows DBC (DB Cargo) class 60, 60066 in Drax livery, near Mobberley on a Peak Forest - Dallam aggregate working.









DBC class 67, 67015 is up next taken in the cutting at Moore heading the Manchester Piccadilly - Llandudno service.










The following pics were taken by Jeff Nicholls. A 'smoky' EWS (DBC) class 66  66138 is pictured hauling the Dollands Moor-Irvine china clay tanks - an unusual working for a class 66.








Jeff's next shot shows the DBC class 67, 67015 pushing the 07.38 Chester - Manchester Piccadilly train up Earlestown Bank.









Now the norm, a pair of 68s is shown in this pic from Jeff taken from Burtonwood Road across the hay bales. The working was the 'Tesco Express' as described above.


















The two pics above are from John Smith. Both were taken on 13th August 2016 at St Helens Central and feature front and rear class 57s on the Chester - Edinburgh 'Special'. They were 57312 Solway Princess top, and 57305 Northern Princess, tail -  in Northern Belle livery.




The following shot is from Alan Rigby taken at Winwick on 22nd August 2016. Depicted is GBRf class 92, 92032 IMECHE Railway Division working Carlisle Yard - Crewe.









Now for some pics taken by David Wood in Germany and Poland (not much info supplied with each shot unfortunately). This first one was taken at Wuppertal on 1st August 2016.









David's second pic was taken at Frankfurt Oder Station No.5 370 007 1251 was on route to Poznan (Poland) on 2nd August 2016.









The following four shots were all taken in Poland. Number three was taken at Wolsztyn 3rd August 2016.









This one shows Wolsztyn steam shed on 3rd August 2016.











David's fifth and final shot, taken on 6th August 2016 at Zakapone, shows the funicular in the Tatras Mountains.





















The last three shots in this post are from myself. The two shots above show the tea-time Arriva passenger working (Manchester Piccadilly - Llandudno) through Winwick. Top (left) is DBC class 67, 67015 and tail (right) is Driving Brake Van, 82308. The pics are dated  24th August 2016.





Also taken at Winwick on the same date was DRS class 66, 66423 heading an engineers working.








The final shot from me features the 'Russell' intermodal headed by Freightliner PowerHaul class 70, 70006. date - 24th August 2016 again.

From GB to Germany and Norway.

What a post I can bring to you today, 12th August 2016 - nineteen pics from only 3 contributors, but covering three countries.


WINWICK and BEYOND


First up are twelve pics from Alan Rigby. The first seven of Alan's pics were taken in Germany. Number one was taken in Oberhausen Yard on 8th July 2016. Featured is diesel shunter, 295 057, on a short tank working.







The following two shots were taken at Bremen on 4th July 2016. This one shows a DB shunter, 294 655, on a longer freight working.








Pic three shows electric loco 119 010; according to the Internet the MKB logo indicates local freight railways in the Minden Area. The pic is dated 4th July 2016.








Alan's fourth shot was taken on 6th July 2016 at Wurzburg. Electric loco 189 456 is pictured with a long freight working of tanks.









Taken at Wurzburg on the same date was DB electric loco 151 157 on a car transporter working.









The following two pics (six and seven) from Alan, produced as a montage, shows steam loco No.38 2267 in two guises - retro black and white and colour. Both shots were taken on 8th July 2016 at the preserved railway at Bochum Dalhausen. 










The following five shots from Alan depict shots from closer to home. Pic number eight was taken at Winwick on 12th July 2016 and shows WCRC class 37, 37516 Loch Laidon, working 'light engine', Carnforth - Butterley. 






Alan's ninth shot features double heading DB class 90s, 90024 and 90019 - the latter was named Multimodal earlier this year.  The working was Mossend - Daventry with 90024 sporting sparkling Malcolm livery.







Two ex LMS steam locos are up next.  The first pic (number ten) shows Fowler/Stanier 'Royal Scot' class 4-6-0, No.46100 Royal Scot, passing through Winwick with support coach on 4th August 2016.








Alan's next steam shot features Stanier 'Jubilee' class 4-6-0, No.45699 Galatea, on a Carnforth - Southall loco move through Winwick on 8th August 2016.








Double heading 'light engine' Colas Freight class 56s - 56087 and 56113 - are the focus of shot number twelve from Alan. The location was Winwick, the date was 4th August 2016 and the working was Washwood Heath - Carlisle.







Geoff Monks is up next with a couple of Winwick shots. His first features Freightliner PowerHaul class 66, 66528, on 31st July 2016 with a Southwaite - Crewe engineers train.








The unique Freightliner PowerHaul class 66, 66623 Bill Bolsover is up next at Winwick on 6th August 2016. The working was Hardendale - Guide Bridge.







Jeff Nicholls winds up this post with five shots taken in Norway. The first shows two electric locos on the Flam Railway which is only 20km long but climbs to 3000ft. Pic is dated 30th July 2014.








The next two shots (two and three, from Jeff) are montaged for effect. Top and tailing electric locos are shown on the Flam Railway at Flam working a 6-coach service to Myrdal; pic is dated 30th July 2016.





Pic number four from Jeff shows a pair of 'Green Cargo' locos (1433 and 1438) stabled at Trondheim, between jobs, on 28th July 2016








The fifth and final shot from Jeff features an old blue electric loco, preserved on Trondheim University campus. It was the first electric loco in Norway, serving from 1908 to 1963. It carries the number '3' and name, Ohma Electra.
