Pictorial Stories (1)

In the previous post I wrote the I would include in this, the next post, 25th April 2013, David Quayle's  short pictorial story about the restored railmotor No.93 and Jeff Nicholl's equivalent about the Wednesday  'Wigan Wagons' (repair?). If you have any similar short stories suitable for the blog, send them in.

RAILMOTOR No.93 & AUTOTRAILOR No.92

Code - April W11

David travelled on this special pairing last Saturday (20th April 2013) and described the ride as interesting and comfortable but not fast. As coal cannot be put onto the fire whilst the vehicle is moving some time was spent in stations topping up the fire.  The coal bunker inside the cab was topped up by carrying baskets of coal and tipping into the bunker. Storage for water is also limited.

Railmotor No.93 was built in 1908 at Swindon but in November 1934 was withdrawn from service. Following  removal of the power unit, the carriage portion was converted to an autotrailer and re-numbered No.212.  The trailer was itself condemned in 1956 but purchased by the Great Western Society (GWS) in 1970 and moved to their base at the Didcot Railway Centre. Restoration started in 1998 and included work at Didcot, Tyseley and Llangollen. The project was completed in 2011. The autotrailer was built in 1912 and ran until being condemned in January 1957. It was acquired by the GWS and restored at Llangollen by January 2013.

David's pics show the railmotor/autotrailer pairing, inside the driver's cab, a replenished coal bunker and the passenger interior of the railmotor.

WIGAN WAGONS

This story is about wagons sent to Wigan Springs Branch TMD. On Wednesday 17th April 2013 newly painted DBS class 66, 66001 was in charge of the 'Wigan Wagons'. Part of the manoeuvring takes the train onto the truncated stub of the old Bickershaw Branch. Pics show the train arriving from Warrington on the Down Goods line, the train on the branch about to reverse into the Depot and the train leaving on the Up Goods line, a section of track that only sees one or two trains a week.

Don't forget the voting for the March competition. See previous posts for details
