Focus on Newton/Earlestown

Today's post, 29th September 2016, features 18 images from 6 contributors including a couple featuring that famous steam locomotive No.60103, which visited our locality yesterday.

First up today are five shots from Jeff Nicholls.  The first two are of DRS class 57, 57007 and D213 (40013) Andania - the former is towing the latter from Crewe to Bury for the ELR Diesel Gala where four class 40s will be on show. Te location was Newton -le-Willows and the date, 23rd September 2016.

This pic shows DRS class 57, 57307, at Earlestown on 23rd September 2016, on a crew training exercise, Crewe - Preston, via Earlestown and Newton-le-Willows.

Pic number four from Jeff shows the same set up as in pic number 1 above, but from the reverse.

Jeff's last pic features class 'A1/A3' 4-6-2, No.60103 Flying Scotsman leaving Newton-le-Willows having just passed under the M6. The pic is dated 28th September 2016.

The next pic is from myself, of the same locomotive No.60103, but taken just before Jeff's above, as the loco with support coach passed, slowly, through Newton-le-Willows station, on the same date.

The next four pics are from Alan Spencer's visit to the Isle of Man. The first shows Great Laxey Mine Railway narrow gauge locomotive, Bee, taken on 13th August 2016.

Alan's second pic features Manx Electric Railway car No.2 supplied by G.F. Milnes in 1893. The picture date was the same, 13th August 2016.

Shot number three from Alan shows the Isle of Man Steam Railway 2-4-0T, No.10 G.H. Wood, built by Beyer Peacock of Manchester, in 1905 (named after the Company Director and Secretary, George Henry Wood). The pic is dated 12th August 2016.

Alan's fourth and final pic was taken on the Snaefell Mountain Railway and shows car No.5 approaching the summit while car No.1 is descending. The pic is dated 13th August 2016.

The next three pics are from Colin Platt. His first was taken on a visit to the Kent &  East Sussex Railway and features ex SR (USA) S100 class, 0-6-0T No.30065, built for the USA Transportation Corps. The S100 class was shipped to the UK in 1943. The pic is dated 29th August 2016.

Next from Colin are two pics from the Bluebell Railway. The first one features ex SR (Urie/Maunsell) S15 class 4-6-0, No.847 (30847), at Sheffield Park on 2nd September 2016.

Colin's third pic is  a composite of two pics both showing an ex SR 0-4-4T tender locomotive, (one of Harry Wainright's 'H' class of the S.E.& C.R), No.263. The pic is also dated 2nd September 2016.

Bob McClellan  has sent in the following pic, taken at Newton-le-Willows on 28th September 2016. GBRf class 66, 66703 Doncaster PSB 1981 - 2002,  is pictured approaching the station with the lunchtime Drax PS - Liverpool empty biomass working.

David Wood winds up this latest blog with four pics. Up first is a Felixstowe -Ditton intermodal headed by Freightliner class 66, 66540 Ruby. The location was Runcorn Station and the date, 20th September 2016.
