More Heritage and Narrow Gauge Railways

Another 24 pics in this post, 25th September 2017, from four contributors.

WINWICK AND BEYOND

The first eight pics have been sent in by Jeff Nicholls. First up is a shot from York Station of Stanier 'Jubilee' class 4-6-0, No.45699 Galatea, on the 'Scarborough Spa Express'. The pic is dated 3rd August 2017.

The next three pics from Jeff were all taken at the same location, on the same date. This one shows GBRf class 66, 66744 Crossrail, on a Drax P.S. - Blyth empty biomass working.

Next is East Coast class 91, No. 91110 Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, on an Edinburgh - Kings Cross service. The loco was unveiled at the NRM Railfest event in 2012.

Jeff's fourth York pic features another class 91, on a reverse service as the above, caught in 'tropical monsoon' conditions.

The next three pics were all taken in Norfolk. Pic five features DRS class 37, 37405 on the rear of a Great Yarmouth - Norwich service on 16th September 2017;  DRS class 37, 37419, was on the other end.

The same pairing is up next 37405 + 37419 on the same day, on another GY - Norwich service, this time at Brundall.

DRS class 68, 68005 Defiant, top and tailing with DRS class 68, 68028 are up next, in this shot taken at Reedham Swing Bridge on 14th August 2017. The service was Lowestoft - Norwich.

Jeff's eighth pic was taken at Glazebrook on 3rd August 2017. The Network Rail train was top and tailed by GBRf class 73s - 73963 Janice and 73961 Alison.

The next five shots are from Bevan Price. Castell Caereinion on the Welshpool and Llanfair Light Railway is the location for his first pic, taken on 3rd September 2017.  Depicted, head on, is No.823, Countess, approaching the passing loop as No.822, The Earl, waits to depart for Welshpool.

The next location is Welshpool New Drive level crossing where Bevan photographed Superb, a visiting loco from the Sittingbourne & Kelmsley Light Railway and Joan. Both were double heading a service towards Llanfair.

The next three shots were taken, by Bevan, on the Kirklees Light Railway, (15" gauge on the trackbed of the former Clayton West Branch), on 9th September 2017. This first shot was taken at Shelley Station and features Hurricane (visiting from the Romney Hythe & Dymhurch Railway, Owl and Katie.

Skelmanthorpe is the venue for the last two of Bevan's KLR shots. The first shows another visiting loco from the RH&DR, Winston Churchill.

This final one features Prince Edward of Wales and Synolda.  These two were Greenly/Basset Lowke designs,  4-4-2s from Rhyl Miniature Railway and Ravenglass Railway, respectively.

Our fourteenth shot is from Mark Tombs' recent trip to Newcastle. Pictured are a pair of Tyne  & Wear Metro Units, Nos 4047 and 4049, passing at a sunny Tynemouth Station on 27th August 2017.

The final ten shots in this post are from David Quayle. Up first are several shots taken on the North Norfolk Railway on 2nd September 2017.

The first one (left) shows ex WD class '9F' 2-10-0, No. 90775 with a passenger service at Holt.  Ex LNER 'B12' 4-6-0, No.8572 (61572), is pictured light engine (right) at Weybourne, in shot number two.

Ex GNR/LNER class 'N2'  0-6-2T, No1744,(69523), is up next (left), also taken light engine, at Weybourne.  She was fitted with condensing apparatus to save water when working on the Metropolitan Railway between Kings Cross and Moorgate. The second shot, right) was taken at Sheringham. Double heading pair Nos 76084 and 53809 are pictured heading a passenger service. No.76084 is an ex BR 'Standard' class '4MT' 2-6-0; No.53809 is an ex S&DJR class '7F' 2-8-0.

Both of the above shots were taken at Holt. The first (left) features two locos described above. Nos 1744 (69523) and 8572 (61572). The second Holt shot (right) features No.1744 again and ex GWR  0-6-0T, No.7714.

Both of the above shots were also taken at Holt. Pictured left are Nos 7714 and 8572 (background), both described previously. In the right hand pic No 7714 is again shown together with ex BR standard class '9F' 2-10-0, No.92203 Black Prince, to the fore.

The final two shots from David are pictured above. The left hand shot was taken at Sheringham and features No.7714 and No.92203 Black Prince, both described above. On the right is No.8572 (see details above) at Weyborne with a passenger service. There are a few pics remaining in my in-tray which I will try to use shortly.

David has spent a long time putting together a website describing all steam locomotives in preservation, and their history.  Go to Preserved British Steam Locomotives
