Return to the SVR

Today's post, 28th March 2014, comprises eighteen pics from eight contributors. They include some of the latest pics from the recent SVR Gala.


WINWICK & ELSEWHERE


First up is an older pic sent in by Alan Rigby and dated 30th January 2014. Class 66, 66751, in Beacon Rail livery, (now GBRf) is shown at St Helens Junction working LBT-Ironbridge biomass tanks.







Next is a pic from David Wood showing a Network Rail Test Train  (NRTT) passing through Eccleston Park on 10th March 2014. Pictured are DRS class 37, 37604 on the rear of  the train, withthe yellow NR Driving Trailer Coach 9701 up front.








Pic number three is from Barry Rigby, taken at Ealing Broadway (London) on 13th March 2014. Pictured is DBS class 59, 59203 on a Jumbo stone train, working Merehead Quarry - Acton Yard.








Next up is a pic from Geoff Monks featuring DBS class 60, 60062 Stainless Pioneer. The working was  an Oubeck - Crewe engineers train and the date, 23rd march 2014.









The next two pics have been sent in by Jeff Nicholls. The blue celebrity 'tug' representing 'The Teenage Cancer Trust', 60074 Teenage Spirit, is pictured on a Lindsey Refinery - Preston Docks working of bitumen tanks. The location was Culcheth and the date, 21st march 2014.







Jeff's second pic shows double heading DRS class 37s - 37419 and 37611 - on a low level nuclear fuel tanks working through Winwick on 26th March 2014.








Pic seven shows a near miss from John Smith. Just as one train had gone past him this one appeared - DBS class 60, 60015 on a FFPS - LBT empty coal run through Lea Green on 25th March 2014. He bagged both by the way. Well done John.







Next is another pic from Barry Rigby featuring a Hitachi class 395 'Javelin' electric unit about to leave St Pancras for Sandwich on 13th March 2014. Many Javelins are named after British, Olympic gold medalists.









John Smith has sent in the next pic. Pictured is a GBRf class 66, 66711 on a LBT - Ironbridge biomass working through St Helens Junction on 25th March 2014.









Next is another shot from Jeff Nicholls taken at Golborne on 21st March 2014. EWS/DBS class 66, 66183 is depicted on a bitumen tanks working.









The following four pics are all from David Quayle the results of his recent visit to the SVR. First up is a composite picture of some tender loving care or TLC being administered to a range of SVR locos in readiness for work. All pics are dated 21st March 2014.









Ex GWR 4-6-0 'Manor' class, No.7828 Odney Manor is up next, in this shot taken at Bewdley.











Ex GWR 0-4-2T loco No.1450 is next, pictured sandwiched between an autocoach and a syphon G milk van. This 'push and pull' set up at Highley was typical of GWR branch lines.









David's fourth shot shows ex GWR 0-6-0PT No.6435 at Bewdley in a very nostalgic composition, including an old luggage trolley.









The SVR theme continues with our next three pics from Colin Platt all taken on the same date, 21st March 2014.. First shows ex GWR 0-6-0PT loco No.6435 in with a passenger service at Highley.







Pic sixteen features ex GWR 0-4-2T loco No.1450 on another example of a 'push n pull' set up with autocoach only. The location was Bewdley.










Colin's third shot  shows ex GWR class '2800' 2-8-0, No.2857, on a passenger service at Highley.











Finally, pic number eighteen, has been sent in by Jeff  Nicholls. DRS class 37, 37409 is pictured at Tamworth on 14th march 2014. The working was a Rugby-Rugby Inspection Saloon tour of the Midlands.

Well done to all our contributors and viewers as we hit the 100,000 mark on the hit counter. Today's  post comprises 14 pics from 7 contributors.


WINWICK and ELSEWHERE


First up is a shot from John Smith showing a DRS class 57, 57308 towing a Virgin 'Super Voyager' class 221, 221114,  on a Burton-under-Needwood to Polmadie working. John's shot is dated 9th March 2014.






Next is the 'Streak' of Jeremy Hosking heading the 'Cumbrian Ranger' railtour in this pic from Ieuan Wood. The Gresley 4-6-2 No.4464 Bittern was pictured at Winwick on 15th March 2014. The railtour ran Tyseley - Crewe - Carlisle and return.







Our third pic has been sent in by Bob McClellan. Pictured is the Drax biomass liveried class 60, 60066, approaching Fiddlers Ferry Marina  with a coal working on 4th March 2014.







Pic number four is from David Quayle.Ian Riley's 'Black Five' 4-6-0 No.44871 is pictured at Winwick with support coach on an ELR-Southall working. David adds that the loco was due to double head a train to Buxton on 15th March 2014 with 'Black Five' 4-6-0 No.45231.









Next up is a Jeff Nicholls' foursome put together as a montage for this post. The class 87, 87002 Royal Sovereign has been seen around Bank Quay for months and Jeff took advantage by taking several different shots on 7th March 2014.








David Wood has sent in pic number six showing EWS (DBS) class 92, 92037 Sullivan on the Tesco express, through Winwick on 15th March 2014.








David has also sent in the next pic of Colas Rail track machine DR73909 Saturn, taken at Daresbury on 3rd March 2014.







Pic number eight is from Jeff Nicholls; featured is the Gresley 'K4' class 2-6-0, No.61994 The Great Marquess of Scottish farmer John Cameron. The working, with support coach, was Crewe - Keighley, the location was Golborne and the date, 5th March 2014.





It's a long time since I posted any pics but here are a couple taken over the last few days. The first shows Ian Riley's 'Black Five' 4-6-0 No.44871 again. The location was Winwick and the date, 14th march 2014.







Jeremy Hosking's 'Streak', No.4464 Bittern  is also depicted again, this time at Red Bank on 15th March 2014. The lighting was great but the wind direction was totally wrong for my pic. Just my luck.








The pair shown in our first pic are up again in pic number eleven from Ieuan Wood. DRS class 57 57308 is shown towing Virgin 'Super Voyager' class 221, 221114, at Winwick on 9th March 2014.







Pic twelve is from Bob McClellan. Pictured is DBS class 60, 60100 on the Preston tanks working at Parkside Junction. Bob's shot is dated 3rd March 2014.








 Thompson 'B1' class 4-6-0 No. 61264 is up next in this shot from David Quayle. The loco is shown traversing the Brooksbottom Viaduct on the ELR with a parcels charter on 4th February 2014.








David has also sent in the fourteenth shot taken on the ELR but on a different date to the above. 'Black Five' 4-6-0 No.45379 is shown passing over the River Roch Viaduct at Bury, on 22nd February 2014.

More Steam from the ELR

Some superb pics from the ELR, together with twelve others comprise today's post, 3rd March 2014.


WINWICK & ELSEWHERE


First up are three pics from Jeff Nicholls. The first, taken at Culcheth on 25th February 2014 features an almost new class 350 on a Manchester Airport - Edinburgh working.







Jeff's second features double heading WCRC class 47s, 47760 and 47826 passing through Winwick on 26th February 2014. The working was empty stock, Carlisle - Tyseley.







The next shot from Jeff shows the new Colas Rail class 70s - 70803, 70804 and 70805 on a Liverpool Docks- Eastleigh move. The location was Bank Quay and the date, 20th February 2014.









Ieuan Wood has supplied the next shot, taken at Bank Quay on 22nd February 2014. The blue class 86, 86259 Les Ross is pictured on the Cumbrian Mountain Express, Carlisle - Euston special.






The next two shots are from John Smith. The first depicts Tug 60035 heading empty coal hoppers on a FFPS - LBT working. The date was 25th February 2014 and the location, Collins Green.






John's next shot features another Tug, the Drax biomass liveried class 60, 60066 on a similar working at the same location on 26th February 2014.








Alan Rigby's shot of DRS class 47, 47853 is next. The loco was banking a train headed by EWS (DRS) class 90, 90020 Collingwood and DRS class 47, 47805 through Winwick on 2nd February 2014. The working was Crewe - Carlisle.







David Quayle has sent in then next four pics which I think indicate why he was the 'Alternatives Section, Photographer of the Year, 2013'. His first shows a parcels charter at Burrs Country Park on the ELR headed by Thompson 'B1' class 4-6-0, No. 61264, on 5th February 2014.






David's second shot shows another parcels charter on the ELR at the same location but headed by ex BR 'Standard' class '4' 2-6-0, No.76084. This pic is also dated 5th February 2014.







Pic number three from David shows ex BR 'Standard' class '4MT' 2-6-4, No.80080 crossing Roch Viaduct at Bury on 22nd February 2014.








David's final shot features ex BR 'Standard' class '4' 2-6-0, No. 76084, heading another parcels charter out of Nuttall Tunnel on the ELR on 5th February 2014.








Geoff Monks was also at the ELR but on 16th February 2014, and he also photographed 76084. The working in Geoff's shot, however, was a Heywood - Rawtenstall passenger service.







Another shot from Geoff shows the Drax biomass liveried class 60, 60066 at Slutchers Lane on an empty coal working on 28th February 2014.








The next shot has been sent in by Bob McClellan. The same class 60 features again 60066, this time taken at Widnes on 26th February 2014.








The same class 60 features yet again in Ieuan Wood's shot taken at Lea Green on 25th February 2014.









Our final shot is from David Wood. David was at Rainhill to photograph the new Colas class 70's 70803, 804 and 805 on 20th February 2014. This is his first attempt at a night shot, so well done David.
