The Tin Bath, Europhoenix and Arriva

In today's post, 24th February 2016, 11 photographs are included, from four contributors.


WINWICK & BEYOND


Up first is a shot from David Quayle taken at Kearsley Station on 14th February 2016. Pictured are double heading ex LMS locos  - 'Black Five' 4-6-0, No.44871 and class '6P' 'Jubilee' 4-6-0, No.45699 Galatea - hauling 'The Tin Bath' Special, running Preston - Sheffield on 14th February 2016.







The next five pics are from Jeff Nicholls. First up is a shot of 0-6-0 tender locomotive No.44422, arriving by road trailer  at Bishops Lydeard on the West Somerset Railway. The pic is dated 16th February 2016. The class '4F' tender locomotive is one of four left in preservation and the only one with left hand drive. 772 were built for the Midland Railway and LMS between 1911 and 1927.





The second pic shows the same loco. No.44422 being winched off the trailer at Bishops Lydeard. You can also find this shot from Jeff in the latest RAILWAY MAGAZINE.









Jeff's third shot shows the Europhoenix class 37, 37884 at Red Bank on 12th February 2016. The working was Kilmarnock - Great Central Railway, consisting of repainted Mark III's bound for the original HST stock.








Next from Jeff are top and tailing class 66s at Culcheth on 13th February 2016. Depicted are GBRf class 66, 66727 Andrew Scott CBE, with a GBRf class 66, 66707 on the tail. The working was Trafford Park-Crewe diverted because of the closure of the Crewe - Manchester line.







Jeff's fifth and final pic was taken on Earlestown Bank on 12th February 2016. Pictured is Arriva Trains Wales service, Manchester Piccadilly - Holyhead headed by Arriva liveried class 67, 67001.








David Wood has sent in the following three pics. First up is DBS class 60, 60011 on a Seaforth - Tinsley working on 5th February 2016.









Next is Stanier 'Black Five' 4-6-0, No.44871, on a Blackburn - Castleton (ELR) working taken at Parkside Junction on 15th February 2016.










David's third shot was taken on 25th January 2016 at Acton Bridge. Freightliner class 66, 66544 is on a Runcorn Folly Lane - Brindle Heath working.









The last two shots in this post are from Geoff Monks. First is the Europhoenix class 37, 37884 on a Kilmarnock - Hotchley Hill move on 12th February 2016. The location was Winwick. The coaches were repainted to match the preserved prototype HST, 41001.








Finally, Freightliner class  90, 90041, is pictured passing Stoke-on-Trent station on 15th February 2016. The working was a Trafford Park - Felixstowe intermodal, diverted because of the closure of the Manchester - Crewe line.

Loughborough Re-visited

In today's post, 12th February 2016, we are visiting the GCR and Shildon (Locomotion), and following Flying Scotsman on her recent travels. This is a record post with 26 pics sent in by just 5 contributors.

WINWICK & BEYOND


We begin with eight shots from David Quayle. The first six are from his visit to the GCR at Loughborough followed by a couple from Locomotion at Shildon. First is a shot of ex LMS 'Jinty', class '3F' 0-6-0, No.47406 and ex SR 'King Arthur' class 4-6-0, No.777 (30777) Sir Lamiel, at Loughborough on 6th February 2016.





Next is this shot of ex SR 'U' class 2-6-0, No.31806, also at Loughborough on the same date. 









Pic number three shows ex BR class '9F' 2-10-0, No.92214, masquerading as No.92220 Evening Star, at Loughborough on the same date.









No.777 (30777) is up again next, being given a little tlc at Loughborough shed on the same date, 6th February 2016. 











Pic five from Loughborough features ex SR Light Pacific, 'Battle of Britain' class 4-6-2, No.34053 Sir Keith Park.









David's final pic from his 6th February Loughborough trip shows No.34053 together with No.92214 (masquerading as 92220 Evening Star). 








An Ivatt, ex GNR large-boilered 'Atlantic' 4-4-2, No.251, is shown next in David's first Shildon pic, taken on 22nd January 2016.









David's second Shildon shot features ex LNER, Gresley 'V2' class 2-6-0, No.4771 (60800) Green Arrow. The loco is unlikely to steam again as it requires very expensive replacement cylinders. David has sent extensive notes about Green Arrow - if you would like copies, email me, and I will forward them to you.






Alan Rigby now follows with a further eight pics. His first shows ex LNER 'A1/A3' class 4-6-2, No.60103 Flying Scotsman, on her loaded test run through Clitheroe, on 4th February 2016.









Alan's second shot is from Winwick on 5th February 2016. Depicted is a 4-loco consist of DRS class 68, 68003 Astute, class 47, 47805, class 20, 20312 and class 47, 47790. Alan adds that the class 47s have been sold and the class 20 is heading to Barrow Hill for storage.







Next from Alan is the Europheonix liveried class 37, 37884, The pic is dated 2nd February 2016 and the location was Winwick.









Pic number four shows Freightliner class 66, 66544 at Acton Bridge on 25th January 2016. The working was Runcorn Folly Lane - Pendleton empty 'bin liners'.










Next is DBS class 67, 67013 passing Greenbank signal box on 25th January 2016. The working was Wigan Wallgate - Wakefield route learning.










DRS class 57, 57307 Lady Penelope is pictured next in Alan's sixth shot taken at Winwick on 29th January 2016. Pictured in DRS 20th Anniversary livery, the loco was working Shrewsbury - Preston.








Ex LMS Stanier 'Pacific' class '8P', No.46233 Duchess of Sutherland is shown next, at Winwick on 29th January 2016. The engine was working with support coach.










Alan's final shot features DBS class 90s, 90040 The Railway Mission and 90039, on a Mossend - Daventry intermodal on 11th February 2016. The location was Broughton.









Ieuan Wood is up next with three shots. His first is of Flying Scotsman taking on water at Hellifield on 4th February 2016 during her loaded test run.









Ieuan's second pic shows GBRf class 66, 66723 Chinook, on a Drax PS - Liverpool BT working on 2nd February 2016. The location was Broad Green.










Pic three from Ieuan features GBRf class 66, 66718 at Edge Hill on 2nd February 2016. It had worked the loaded biomass wagons out of the docks.









Geoff Monks has sent in the next three shots, taken at the GCR on 30th January 2016. His first shows No.777 Sir Lamiel and No.47406 (see above for details of both these locos)  surrounded by boilers at Loughborough shed.








Ex SR Light Pacific, 'Battle of Britain' class 4-6-2, No.34053 Sir Keith Park is featured in Geoff's second shot taken on the same date. The working was a Loughborough Central - Leicester North service  taken at Kinchley Lane, between Quorn and Rothley.







An ex GWR Hawksworth 'Modified Hall' class 4-6-0, No.6990 Witherslack Hall, is up next, from Geoff, on a Loughborough Central - Leicester North train at Kinchley Lane. The date was 30th January 2016, again.








The final four shots are from Jeff Nicholls. His first depicts WCRC class 47, 47746 towing No.60103 Flying Scotsman, (in steam) from Bury to Carnforth, in preparation for a loaded test run.  The location was Culcheth and the date, 27th January 2016.






Pic number two from Jeff shows Arpley's class '08' diesel shunter, 08428, doing its job in the yard, on 19th January 2016.










EWS (DBS) class 66, 66132 is up next, taken at Arpley Junction on 19th January 2016. The working was empty gypsum wagons from Milford West Sidings to FFPS.









The fourth shot from Jeff was taken at Culcheth on 7th February 2016.  Pictured is Freightliner class 66, 66514 on an Ordsall Lane Junc - Crewe Basford Hall engineers' working.
