Mixed Traction from England and Scotland

Today's post is later than usual as submissions have been low this month. However, today,  29 Jan 2018, we have a mixed traction bag of 12 pics, sent in by two contributors. Don't forget the new email address, for contributions, above.

WINWICK & BEYOND

Jeff Nicholls has sent in the first eight pics.  His first shows double heading class 68s on a Crewe - Sellafield, nuclear flask service. They are DRS Nos 68033 and 68034; the location was Winwick and the date, 20 Dec 2017.

Jeff's next three shots below are of a special train. 'The Jolly Grid' ran around Manchester and into Trafford Park Container Terminal. All three shots were taken at Deansgate/Castlefield Junction. DB class 60, 60017 is working light engine to take over the train in pic 1. In pic 2,  60017 is returning at the head of the train; Colas class 56, 56094 is pictured on the tail in pic 3. The pics are dated 16 Dec 2017.

Jeff's next shot was taken at Winwick on 20 Dec 2017 and depicts a Virgin Pendolino heading north at dawn.

His sixth shot was taken at Fort William on 27 Nov 2017. Pictured is class 73, 73967, stationary in a siding after arriving with the overnight sleeper train. Eleven of the class owned by GBRf, were rebuilt from 2014 and designated class 73/9. Six, including 73967 are used to operate the Caledonian sleeper trains from Edinburgh, to the north.

Jeff's final two shots were taken at York on 7 December 2017. Pictured  is ex LMS, Fowler/Stanier re-built 'Royal Scot' class 4-6-0, No.46100 Royal Scot, at York waiting to leave for Peterborough with 'The York Yuletide Express'. The loco is owned by 'The Royal Scot Locomotive and General Trust'.

Ex LNER, Gresley 'A4' class 4-6-2, No.60009 Union of South Africa - privately owned by Scotsman John Cameron - is pictured uncoupling from the same train, before heading to the NRM to stable up.

The next four pics have been sent in by Bevan Price. The first features 'Deltic' class 55, 55009 (D9009) Alycidon,  at Prescot on 30 Dec 2017. The service was a Willington/York - Liverpool tour. The loco is owned by 'The Deltic Preservation Society'.

Bevan's next two shots above, feature the Liverpool/Newton circular tour. The first (left) shows  DRS class 68, 68031, at St Helens Junction on the same date, 30 Dec 2017.  The second shot of the same train (right) shows class 55, 55009 Alycidon, on the rear.

Bevan's final shot depicts GBRf class 66, 66746, at Edge Hill Tuebrook Sidings, on 1 Jan 2018. The wagons were waiting for their next working, on biomass duties.
