Twelve Diesels, One Steam

For this post, 4th September 2012, I am using most of the remaining August dated pics from the 'bank' so that they qualify for the August pic competition. The post comprises twelve pics, eleven of them from just three contributors.

WINWICK

First up is Ken Young's pic of class 56, 56312, pic number one. The location was Bank Quay and the date, 10th July 2012.  This loco was seen at the NRM's York Railfest in June.

Next, pic number two, is from John Smith. The blue class 60, 60074 Teenage Spirit, is shown on a FFPS - LBT coal empties working at Winwick on 31st August 2012.

Code - August W14

The Freightliner/Shanks liveried class 66, 66522,  is featured in the next two pics, both different. Pic number three, from myself, shows the loco hauling FFPS coal empties on 28th August 2012.  The location was Winwick (trees need pruning; can anyone help?)

Code - August W15

Pic number four, from John Smith, shows the same loco at Winwick on 31st August 2012. The working was a FFPS-Hunterston coal empties.

 Code - August W16

Jeff Nicholls has sent in pic number five. Colas class 66, 66849 Wylam Dilly, is featured heading the Chirk - Carlisle empty logs working through Bank Quay. Jeff's pic is dated 1st September 2012.

Code - September W1

Jeff has also contributed pic number six showing Freightliner 'PowerHaul' class 70, 70011, heading a coal working through Winwick on 8th August 2012.

Code - August W17

ALTERNATIVE UK PICS

Jeff Nicholls has sent in pic number seven taken at Thurso on 21st August 2012. Is this the northernmost pic taken for our blog? Dmu 158706 is pictured standing at the station.

Code - August A10

Top 'n' tail class 20s are up next, pic number eight, from John Smith. The horrible livery of Harry Needle is sported by locos 20311 and 20314, each attached to a barrier coach which, in turn, are attached to a single passenger coach. The pic is dated 21st August 2012.

Code - August A11

Pic number nine is from John Smith. Pictured is the Royal liveried class 47, 47798 Prince William, on the tail of the Liverpool - Holyhead railtour headed by 'A4' steam loco, 60009 Union of South Africa (out of picture).  The location was Mill Lane, St Helens and the date, 19th August 2012.

 Code - August A12

'K1' class 2-6-0 locomotive of A.H. Peppercorn (developed from Thompson/Gresley predecessors) No. 62005, is up next, pic number ten. The location is Mallaig, the photographer, Jeff Nicholls and the date, 28th August 2012. The loco was running round the coaches after heading 'The Jacobite' from Fort William.

Code - August A13

Ken Young has sent in pic number eleven of EWS (DBS) class 66, 66053, on a steel working through Hereford Station. What superb chimneys. The pic is dated 23rd May 2012.

The twelfth and final pic is from John Smith. Freightliner class 66, 66623 Bill Bolsover, is pictured at Acton Bridge with Ellesmere Port - Crewe empty sand boxes. John's pic is dated 8th August 2012.

Code - August A14

The 'Pic of the Month' - August 2012 competition is now closed for entries although August dated pics should still be forwarded to the blog. Voting can now commence; earlier than I previously forecasted.

The voting system is simple - just send me the yellow August code numbers of the three pics you have chosen as 1st, 2nd and 3rd in each section, Winwick and Alternatives (UK and World). All August dated pics posted between August 13th and September 4th are eligible and  have code numbers. My email address is at the top of the blog. Everyone reading this post is eligible to vote, contributor or not.
