Retro' and Current Photographs

This post, 7 December 2017, comprises 22 pics from three contributors and includes some splendid shots from the last century.

RETROSPECTIVE

The first seven shots are from Geoff Monks and all were taken between 1976 and 1986 on the Severn Valley Railway. Jeff adds that none of the locos are in current service.

The first is of 'Manor' class 4-6-0 of Charles Collett, No.7819 Hinton Manor. The loco is heading a passenger service out of Bridgnorth towards Kidderminster, on 14 April 1985.

Next, is ex GWR 'Castle' class 4-6-0, also of Collett, No.5051 Earl Bathurst. The visiting loco was photographed soon after leaving Bridgnorth with a passenger service on 15 June 1986.

Ex GWR, small 'Prairie' tank 2-6-2, No.4566 of G.J.Churchward,  is pictured on Victoria Bridge near Arley, on 8 May 1976. The passenger service was rostered Bewdley to Bridgnorth, as the Bewdley to Kidderminster section hadn't opened then, to regular services.

The same loco is pictured again on a 'Santa Special' at Foley Park (between Kidderminster and Bewdley) on 6 December 1986.

Ex BR, class '4MT' 4-6-0,  No.75069, is up next pictured passing the former junction of the Wyre Forest line near Bewdley, on 6 December 1986. The working was a 'Santa Special'.

Ex LMS, Black '8' 2-8-0, No.8233 (48773) of William Stanier, is pictured next on another 'Santa Special, on 7 December 1985. The location was Foley Park.

The same loco is pictured at Foley Park on another 'Santa Special', on the same date, 7 December 1985.

WINWICK AND BEYOND

Geoff Monks has also sent in this picture taken more recently, on 4 November 2017. Ex GWR, Churchward '2800' class 2-8-0, No.2807, is pictured approaching Carrog on a Llangollen - Corwen service. The loco was visiting from the Gloucester Warwickshire Railway.

Next are nine shots from Jeff Nicholls. The first two, below, are of Colas Rail class 56, 56105 - (left) at Warrington (taken from Barnard Street Bridge) and (right) at Crosfields Works, Warrington. The 'Special' was 'The Fiddlers Five' which visited Fiddlers Ferry P.S. on 28 October 2017. DB (EWS livery) class 66, 66183, is out of sight on the tail of the train.

Next are T & T Colas class 56s, 56113 and 56096, at Chester on the Rail Head Treatment Train (RHTT) working Shrewsbury-Shrewsbury overnight, covering hundreds of miles, mainly in Wales. The pic is dated 9 November 2017.

In this shot, from Jeff, the Carlisle - Chirk logs working is stopped at Bank Quay for a crew change. The Colas class 56s were 56087 and 56105, and the pic is dated 19 October 2017.
