Galatea on the 'NWCE'

Twenty four shots - a record number -  are included in today's post, 24th July 2015. Nine photographers have contributed..


WINWICK AND BEYOND


Our first four pics are from Alan Rigby. First up is a shot of  a German diesel locomotive, No. 225 010 taken at Oberhausen Yards on 8th July 2015.  The locos are nicknamed 'Rabbits' because of the 2 stick up bits on the roof like rabbits' ears.







Next is  a shot of the Liverpool - Holyhead, 'North Wales Coast Express' taken on 19th July 2015. The location is Frodsham Viaduct and the engine at the head is ex LMS Stanier 'Jubilee' class 4-6-0, No.45699 Galatea,








Alan's third pic shows DBS class 60, 60001 working Seaforth - Tinsley empty steel wagons through St Helens Junction. The pic is dated 17th July 2015.








Fourth shot from Alan depicts GBRf class 66, 66711 Sence, in Aggregate Industries livery at Winwick on 20th July 2015. The working was Ironbridge - LBT,








John Smith has sent in the following three shots. First up is the  ex LMS Stanier 'Princess Coronation' class 4-6-2, No.46233 Duchess of Sutherland, on the Carlisle - Liverpool return leg of  the 'Cumbrian Mountain Express'. The pic is dated 18th July 2015 and the location was St Helens Central Station.






John's second shot features a Freightliner class 66, seven loco light engine consist, passing through Winwick on 17th July 2015. The locos were 66519, 515, 528, 598, 419, 562 and 565 on a Crewe - Carlisle working. 







The Aggregate Industries liveried class 66 of GBRf, 66711 Sence, is pictured next, pic number three from John. The working was Ironbridge - LBT empty biomass, the date was 7th July 2015, and the location was St Helens Junc.







The next four shots are all courtesy of Geoff Monks. The first shows DRS class 37, 37419 passing between Nethertown and Braystones on June 11th 2015. The service was Carlisle - Barrow.








Number two from Geoff features DRS class 37, 37409 between Ulverston and Dalton-in-Furness on a Preston - Barrow train on 11th June 2015. 








DRS class 37, 37409 is pictured again between Braystones and Nethertown on a Barrow-Carlisle train on 15th July 2015. 









The Aggregate Industries GBRf class 66, 66711 Sence, is pictured again in Geoff's fourth shot. This was taken at Winwick on 18th July 2015; the working was Ironbridge - LBT empty biomass.








My own shot now follows. I was at Lea Green on 19th July 2015 for the 'North Wales Coast Express' working Liverpool-Holyhead and return. The loco, ex LMS class '6P' 4-6-0, No.45699 Galatea failed at Llandudno, and was replaced with a diesel.







The next three shots are from Bevan Price. First up is a shot of the unique, ex Haydock Colliery (built 1874) 0-6-0 Well Tank, Bellerophon, known as 'Owd Bell'. Bellerophon and Wissington are pictured leaving Foxfield Colliery, banked by Florence No.2 at the Foxfield Railway Steam Gala on 19th July 2015. On the left is a 0-4-0 crane tank, Kerr Stuart 4101.





Pic two from Bevan depicts Pecket 0-4-0 diesel shunter Austins No.1 at the Middleton Railway's 'Hunslet 150' event on 18th July 2015.The location is Moors Road crossing.








Class 31, D5580 is next, in this third shot from Bevan. The loco is departing Ruddington Fields at the GCR (Northern) Diesel Gala on 11th July 2015.








David Wood's shot of the ex LMS 'Jubilee'-hauled 'North Wales Coast Express' now follows. No.45699 Galatea was pictured at Whiston on 19th July 2015.








Next are a few shots left "on file" and not yet used.



The first three are from David Quayle. His first shows ex GWR Collett 0-4-2 tank, No.1450, at Arley signal box on the SVR, on 21st March 2015.










David's second shot features ex LNER Gresley 'D49' class 4-4-0, No,62712 Morayshire, at Barrow Hill Roundhouse on 14th March 2015.









Next from David is the ex GWR Churchward class '28xx' 2-8-0 No.2857, pictured crossing Victoria Bridge over the River Severn on the SVR. The pic is dated 21st March 2015.









The WSR is the venue for the next three shots from Colin Platt. The first was taken ast Minehead on 27th March 2015 and features ex BR 'Britannia'class 4-6-2, No 70000 Britannia masquerading as No.70021 Morning Star, standing beside ex GWR 2-6-2T No.4160. The latter is part of the '5101' class of  'large prairies', modifications of G. J. Churchward's class '3100' (built 1903), by Charles Collett.






Colin's second shot features the ex GWR 'Modified Hall' class 4-6-0, No.6960 Raveningham Hall at Blue Anchor, on the WSR on 27th March h 2015.









The ex BR 'Britannia' class 4-6-2, No.70021 Morning Star (details above), is pictured again on the WSR on a passenger service on 27th March 2015; Colin's third shot.








The next two shots are from Jeff Nicholls. First up is this one taken at Arley (SVR) on 31st March 2015. Ex SR Bulleid 'Light Pacific' 4-6-2, No.34053 Sir Keith Park, is pictured with a passenger service.








This shot also from Jeff, completes the longest post ever compiled for the AWL blog. Pictured is EWS (DBS) class 67, 67022, on a Chester - Manchester service through Winwick Quay, on 4th July 2015.
