Pics of the Month, April 2012 - RESULTS

Here are the pics that have triumphed in the Pic of the Month, April competition. Congratulations to the five contributors below.

WINWICK AREA

1st  Colin Platt. Posted 29th April 2012; Pic no.5

Taken at Red Bank on 27th April 2012, BR 'Standard' class '7 ' 4-6-2, No. 70013 Oliver Cromwell, is pictured heading the 'Great Britain V', a 9-day rail tour of the UK.

2nd  Bob McClellan. Posted 19th April 2012; Pic no.2

Bob's pic shows DBS red liveried class 66, 66097, on a FFPS-Newbiggin gypsum working on its way to Walton to 'run round'.  The  pic is dated 11th April 2012.

3rd=  Dave Harris. Posted 19th April 2012; Pic no.6

The oilseed rape field, lineside at Winwick, and the contrasting sky provide a pictorial setting for Dave's shot of a Pendolino 390xxx. The shot is dated 16th April 2012.

3rd= Jeff Nicholls. Posted 26th April 2012; Pic no.1

This pic, shows the ex LMS Stanier 'Pacific' No.46233, Duchess of Sutherland, sporting her latest livery of 'Brunswick Green'. (According to the Internet she carried this livery from 1952/early 1953 - can anyone clarify?) The loco with support coach is pictured at Bank Quay where it was scheduled to stop but passed slowly through platform 4 without stopping. The pic is dated 25th April 2012.

ALTERNATIVE PICS (UK and WORLD)

1st=  Geoff Monks. Posted 6th April 2012; Pic no.6

This shot features the superb Furness Railway 0-4-0 tender locomotive, No.20, taken at the Ribble Steam Railway, Preston on 1st April 2012. I believe the livery was 'Indian Red' and it is very striking. No.20 is the oldest working standard gauge loco in the UK (built in 1863) and is owned by the Furness Railway Trust. I wouldn't fancy being in that cab in bad weather though.

1st=  Bob McClellan. Posted 19th April 2012; Pic no.11

A BR 'Standard' class '7' is featured next. The loco, No.70000 Britannia, is heading a railtour to Chester and is pictured at Hargrave. The pic is dated 14th April 2012.

3rd Bob McClellan. Posted 4th May 2012; Pic number 8

This pic is one of a pair taken at the recent Llangollen Railway 9-day Gala. Bob had been working on the railway helping with the Gala. Pictured is the 'new build' Peppercorn 'A1' class 4-6-2, No.60163 Tornado; it was taken on 27th April 2012.
