Saturday Railtours

This post (1st July 2010) is dedicated to two railtours due to run this Saturday, 3rd July 2010.

The steam charter is the HF Railtours 'The Cumbrian Coast Explorer' and it is headed by BR 'Standard' Class 8, 'Pacific', 71000 Duke of Gloucester, working the WCML between Crewe and Carlisle. The return will be via the S&C. Designed by Robert Riddles, 'The Duke' was outshopped from Crewe Works in 1954. I've searched our 'bank' of pictures contributed to our blog and I could find only one of 'The Duke'. So here it is, with support coach - taken by John Smith near Winwick Junction on 1st June 2007.

The diesel charter is Compass Tours 'Ayrshire Coast Explorer' and it is now headed by a DBS class 66 working from Broad Green - Carlisle - Troon or Ayr. This will run through St Helens Central to Wigan NW where it will join the WCML.
