Alternative Photographs (24)

From today, 1st December 2011, until the end of the month we are returning to our 'Alternatives' theme for photographs. We have done this twice previously and the alternatives proved to be extremely popular; I expect the same response this time. So, no more Winwick area pics for a month, just pics taken anywhere. For the first of our 'Alternative Photographs' posts I am using seven pics left over from July, the last time that we did this. An eighth pic, sent in recently, has also been included.

The first pic has been sent in by Jeff Nicholls. Depicted is an atmospheric, purely industrial scene from Bickershaw Colliery with saddle tank Bickershaw (ex No.8) on shed. The pic is dated 13th February 1978.

Next up is a shot from John Smith. John visited the Peak Rail Gala on 14th May 2011 and shot 'Peak' class D8, Penyghent, approaching Darley Dale with a passenger working.

The third shot is from Colin Platt. Photographed leaving Rainhill heading the 'Coast to Coast' (Liverpool - Manchester - York - Scarborough) railtour is Stanier 'Pacific' 6201 Princess Elizabeth. The pic is dated 4th July 2010.

Pic number four is from David Quayle. Two Richard Maunsell locos are shown at Ropley on the Mid Hants Railway on 10th June 2011. They are 'Lord Nelson' class 4-6-0 No.850 Lord Nelson, and 'U' class 2-6-0, No.31806.

Next up is GWR Prairie class 2-6-2, No.5199, leaving Froghall with a passenger working on the Churnet Valley Railway, on 13th July 2011. The photographer was Alan Rigby.

Pic number six is from Bevan Price. Ex Haydock Foundry 0-6-0 locomotive, Bellerophon, is pictured with a Bagnall saddle tank, No.2842, ex No.2 of the Kent Electric Power Company. 'Owd Bell' as she was known, was built in 1876; the Bagnall saddle tank was built seventy years later. The pic was taken at Cavershall Road, Blythe Bridge on the Foxfield Railway.

Colin Irwin has supplied pic number seven. One of Charles Collett's 'Castle' class 4-6-0s,  No.5043 Earl of Mount Edgcumbe, is shown heading the 'Ticket to Ride' railtour at Rainhill, on 1st October 2011. The special ran Birmingham - Liverpool and return with WCRC class 47, 47773, on the tail.

The final shot, number eight, has been sent in by Matthew Chambers. A Virgin 'Pendolino' class 390  is shown ready to leave Wigan North Western on the evening of 29th December 2010, destination - Glasgow.

It's 'open season' again so send in whatever you want.
