Frodsham & Dutton Viaducts to the Fore.

This post, the last one for this year, 23rd December 2016, features eighteen photographs from three contributors.


WINWICK AND BEYOND


First up are five shots from Alan Rigby. His first shows DBS class 67, 67010 at Winwick on 29th November 2016. The working was Manchester Piccadilly - Holyhead.








EWS (DBS) class 66, 66107 is next, in Alan's second shot. The location was Winwick, the date was 29th November 2016 and the working was Knowsley Freight Terminal - Wilton EFW.







Next are double heading DBS class 90s - 90040 and 90035 - on a Mossend - Daventry intermodal, through Winwick, on the same date as above.








Pic number four from Alan features a Rail Head Treatment Train, DR98904, working Wigan LIP - Wigan LIP through St Helens Junction. The pic is dated 2nd December 2016.








Alan's last shot of DBS class 60, 60100 was taken at St Helens Junction on 2nd December 2016. The working was Seaforth - Tinsley empty steel wagons.








The following fours shots are from Bevan Price. First up are double heading Stanier 'Black Fives', 4-6-0s, Nos 44871 and 45407 at Roodee Junction, Chester. They were heading a tour from Bristol on 18th November 2016.







Next is EWS (DBS) class 66, 66165, pictured at Wigan Wallgate with a Knowsley - Wilton 'binliner'  - taken on 8th November 2016.









Pic three from Bevan features Stanier 'Princess' class 4-6-2, No. (4)6201 Princess Elizabeth. In the picture she is arriving at Worcester Shrub Hill with a tour from Rainham (Kent) on 29th October 2016.








Bevan's fourth and final shot was of the same working at the opposite end of the station. Note the superb signals.









Nine shots from Jeff Nicholls conclude this post. A Network Rail class 150 unit, 150 001, was working through Winwick on 7th December 2016. The working was Blackpool - Derby.









The Royal Mail 325 set was photographed on Dutton Viaduct on 29th November 2016. It was an empty working, from Crewe to Warrington Mail Centre.








Frodsham Viaduct was the setting for Jeff's third pic taken on 10th December 2016. DBS class 60, 60044 Dowlow, was heading the 'Marches and Moors' rail-tour from Euston to Derby.







EWS (DBS) class 66, 66034 was on the low level line at Bank Quay, working light engine from Arpley to Halewood. The pic is dated 1st December 2016.









Jeff's fifth shot features Freightliner class 66, 66620 in Crosfields on a Ferrybridge - Fiddlers Ferry working. The pic is dated 29th November 2016.








GBRf class 66, 66701 was photographed on 29th November 2016 at it crossed Dutton Viaduct with Liverpool - Drax biomass working.







Next from Jeff is GBRf class 66, 66742 ABP Port of Immingham Centenary 1912-2012,  taken at Acton Bridge Station on 10th December 2016. The working was Drax - Seaforth biomass empties.







Pic number eight from Jeff shows DBS class 67, 67010, on a Manchester - Holyhead service, with Crosfields Works providing the exhaust steam effect. The pic is dated 29th November 2016.







The final shot from Jeff and for 2016, was taken on 29th November 2016 and features Freightliner class 86, 86608, at Acton Bridge. The working was a Garston - Crewe intermodal.

Diesels, Diesel units and Electrics.

This post, 1st December 2016, features eighteen pics from four contributors.


WINWICK & BEYOND



First up are eight shots from Jeff Nicholls. Jeff has again, used high iso speeds when necessary, to achieve his results. I'm sure you can guess which they are. This pic shows an Aviva class 153 unit , 153 323, leaving Crewe for Swansea on 16th November 2016.






Jeff's second shot was also taken at Crewe on the same date. Here another class 153 unit, East Midlands Trains 153 376, X24 - EXPEDITIOUS, is leaving for Derby.









On the same date but at Stafford, Jeff photographed Northampton class 350, 350 104, on a Euston - Crewe service via Stoke -on-Trent.









Jeff's next shot features DRS class 37, 37424 masquerading as 37558 Avro Vulcan XH558 at Crewe on 16th November 2016. Either end of the loco are DRS class 57s, 57310 Pride of Cumbria, and 57312 Solway Princess.








The same three locos are shown in the next shot but from the reverse angle.










Jeff's sixth shot was taken at Arpley Yard on the same date, 16th November 2016. Pictured is EWS (DRS) class 66, 66082.










Two GBRf (for NR) class 73s are up next topping and tailing a NR train at Birchwood, on 24th November 2016. Jeff adds that not many locos are seen on this line, especially class 73s.  The locos were 73962(T)  Dick Mabbutt and 73965(T).









Jeff's final shot was taken at Winwick on 25th November 2016. Freightliner  class 66, 66597 Viridor, is shown with the early morning Daventry - Coatbridge intermodal. Using the fence as a frame has produce a more interesting photograph.








Geoff Monks has sent in the following four pics. First up are double heading DRS (Nuclear) class 37s, 37604 and 37601, with a Sellafield - Crewe spent nuclear fuels working. The pic is dated 19th November 2016; the location was Acton Bridge.








Pic two from Geoff  shows Freightliner class 66, 66416 double heading with Freightliner class 86, 86609 (Dead in Tow), on a Garston - Crewe working of empty container flats (a regular formation on Saturdays). Location and date were the same.








In sunshine but under a dramatic, dark sky, Pendolino 390 143 is pictured next, same location and date, on a Liverpool Lime Street - Euston service.









Also taken at Acton Bridge on 19th November 2016, was Geoff's fourth pic of GBRf class 92, 92014, in Caledonian Sleeper livery, hauling a Garston - Crewe car transporter working.









The following five shots are from Alan Rigby. First up is Freightliner class 66, 66531 at Sankey Bridges, working coal empties from Fidlers Ferry to Ferrybridge, on Tuesday 15th November 2016.








Next is Freightliner class 66, 66561, with a loaded coal working from Ferrybridge to FFPS on the same date, and at the same location.








Taken at St Helens Central on 15th November 2016, is EWS (DBS) class 66, 66068 working Arpley yard - Ravenhead.




















Pics four and five from Alan were taken at Buckshaw Parkway on 13th November 2016. Depicted is DRS class 68, 68025 working the Northern Belle round trip, Manchester Victoria - Carlisle. with 68023 on the rear.




The final shot in this post is from David Wood. David's shot of the Northern Belle 'Special'  was taken at Eccleston Park on 19th November 2016. The DRS class 57s are 57305 Northern Princess and 57312 Solway Princess and the working was Crewe - Edinburgh.

Diesel, Electric and Narrow Gauge/Standard Gauge Steam

Today's post, 16th November 2016, comprises 22 pics from four contributors covering many aspects of 21st century rail.


WINWICK & BEYOND


First up in this post is Alan Rigby with 8 shots. His first was taken at Brundall Station and features DRS class 68, 68004 Rapid with a service from Norwich; the destination was Lowestoft. The pic is dated 28th October 2016.







Norfolk's 18 miles long, 15 inch gauge Bure Valley Railway, was the location for Alan's next pic. Pictured is 2-6-2 No.7 Spitfire leaving Wroxham for Aylsham, on 29th October 2016.








This next shot shows BR class '9F' 2-10-0, No.92203 Black Prince, waiting at Sheringham for Holt on the North Norfolk Railway. The pic is dated 29th October 2016.








Pic four from Alan shows Freightliner class 47, 47830 BEECHING'S LEGACY on a route learner at Golborne Junction. The route was Crewe - Bamfurlong Junction via Manchester; the date was 1st November 2016.







Next is Freightliner class 66, 66512 taken at Acton Bridge on 7th November 2016. The working was an empty 'binliner', running Runcorn Folly Lane - Brindle Heath.









Alan's sixth and seventh shots were also taken at Acton Bridge on the same date. Freightliner class 86, 86622, is pictured here with a Garston - Crewe Basford Hall working.








GBRf class 66, 66701 is shown with a LBT- Drax PS loaded biomass working - same date and location.









This eighth shot from Alan was taken at St Helens Junction on 9th November 2016. GBRf class 66, 66742 ABP Port of Immingham Centenary 1912-2012, is pictured with a Drax PS - LBT empty biomass working.








Next are two shots from Geoff Monks. This first one (number nine overall) was taken at Acton Bridge on 5th November 2016. Double heading DRS class 37s, 37603 and 37602 are  pictured on a Sellafield - Crewe spent nuclear fuel flasks working.






Also taken at the same location on the same date, was GBRf class 92, 92032 IMechE Railway Division, on a Garston - Crewe car transporter working.









David Quayle is up next with six pics, taken at the Severn Valley Railway. The first one features Hudswell Clarke, ex GWR 0-6-0 saddle tank loco, (earlier - Port Talbot & Docks Railway), No.813 at Bewdley on 4th November 2016; in a superb Autumnal setting. Ex GWR small prairie tank 2-6-2, No. 4566 is just visible behind.






The same loco, No.813, is up again in this shot at Bewdley, with a passenger service on the same date, 4th November 2016.










Pic number three from David shows small prairie No.4566 again, double heading with ex GWR 'Manor' class 4-6-0, No.7812 Erlestoke Manor, at Bewdley on 4th November 2016.








Taken at Highley on 4th November 2016 was the ex LMS 2-6-0 class 5MT 'crab' locomotive, No. 13065 (42765) on a passenger service.








Next up is ex GWR  "42xx" class 2-8-0 prairie tank No.4270 at Bewdley on the same date.










In this shot, number six from David, ex GWR "Manor" class 4-6-0 No.7812 Erlestoke Manor, is clearly visible between two other locos at Bewdley, on the same date. To the right is small prairie tank No.4566 (details above), and to the left is ex GWR 0-4-2 tank loco, No.1450.






Another six shots now follow from Jeff Nicholls. His first was taken at red bank and shows the "Wigan wagons for repair" working headed by DRS class 66, 66152. The pic is dated 9th November 2106.








Jeff's second shot shows  Freightliner class 66, 66562 at Fiddlers Ferry Marina on 11th November 2016. The working was coal from Ferrybridge.









Next is Feightliner class 66, 66622 at the same location by the Inn Crossing, with coal empties from FFPS to Ferrybridge on the same date.









Pic number four from Jeff features DRS class 66, 66426, at Bank Quay on one of the daily, Carlisle-Crewe engineers' workings.  Jeff took this pic at iso 6400. The pic is dated 2nd November 2016.








Another Freightliner class 66, 66544 is up next, heading a Coatbridge - Daventry intermodal working through a frosty Winwick, on 2nd November 2016.









Finally, Arriva class 67, 67003 is pictured at Bank Quay on a Manchester Piccadilly -  Llandudno service. The pic is dated 2nd November 2016. Another taken at iso 6400.
