This post, 3rd April 2012, is dedicated to one of our own, Ray Whitfield. Ray passed away on Saturday 31st March 2012, but left an indelible impression in the memories of each member of the 'Winwick Faithful'. The latter band of men who meet regularly at Winwick to socialise and take railway photographs, are all grieving in their own way at the loss of a fine and knowlegeable man and a great friend. Known only as Ray, (many people never knew his surname) or as the 'bird man' (he was always hanging titbits on the hawthorn trees for local birds), he never sent in pictures for the blog so I can't, unfortunately, reproduce any.
However, I have placed a composite picture in this post of Ray leaning against the fence at Winwick in characteristic pose, but unusually, without a fag in his hand. I have superimposed a picture of a blue tit enjoying the spoils of Ray's efforts at one of his feeding posts.
Several previous posts have included pieces about Ray, some exclusively so. Please input his name into the search bar above and all such posts will be identified for you.
We, the Winwick enthusiasts, send our sincere condolences to his family and friends, and share their grief. God bless you Ray, Winwick will never be the same again.
