31st December 2010 was the 9th post of the Alternative Photographs 'season' and we re-start the series today, 1st July 2011, with the 10th post. Look out for something different over the next three weeks.
The first pic is from Geoff Monks. Two of Charles Collett's finest are pictured double heading, leaving Crewe on a Tyseley - Llandudno railtour on 30th April 2011. The locos are 'Hall' class 4-6-0, No.4965 Rood Ashton Hall, and 'Castle' class 4-6-0, 5043 Earl of Mount Edgcumbe.
The second shot is from Jeff Nicholls, taken at the East Lancashire Railway Gala on 22nd January 2011. The locomotive is Ivatt class 2MT No.46441, photographed on a freight special.
Pic number three is from John Smith, In John's shot the legendary 4-4-0 of George Jackson Churchward No.3717 City of Truro is shown on the Great Central Railway on 29th January 2011.
Pic four is from Glenn Oakley and the GWR is once again to the fore. Castle class 4-6-0 No.5043 Earl of Mount Edgcumbe is featured again. This time it is on a 16th April 2011 railtour 'The Red Rose', and is shown steaming alongside the M602 in Manchester. What a surprise for the motorists.
