The early galas at two of our Heritage Railways are the focus of today's post, 29th March 2016. Thirtenn pics are used from four contributors.
WINWICK & BEYOND
The first three pics are from Colin Platt's visit to the March, Severn Valley Railway (SVR) Gala. Up first is ex GWR '64xx' class, 0-6-0 pannier tank No.6412, double heading with ex GWR 2-6-2, '4500' class small 'Prairie tank', No.4566, approaching Bewdley on 16th March 2016.
Colin's third pic shows the recently overhauled, ex SR Bulleid 'West Country' class 4-6-2, No.34027 Taw Valley, at Eardington Halt on 19th March 2016.
The following four shots from Colin are from the recent West Somerset Railway Gala. This one features the ex Somerset & Dorset Joint Railway class '7F' 2-8-0, No.53808, working over Ker Moor towards Blue Anchor.
Shot number five, overall, from Colin, shows the double heading ex SR Bulleid 'Light Pacifics', No.34070 Manston (BoB class) and re-built, No.34053 Sir Keith Park. (BoB class). The pic is dated 6th March 2016.
Next is a shot of four locos all standing at Minehead. They are No.34070 again, No.34098, rebuilt BoB class 4-6-2 No.34053 masquerading as No. 34098 Templecombe, ex LMS, Stanier 'Black Eight' 2-8-0, No.48624, and ex GWR, Hawksworth, 'Modified Hall' class 4-6-0, No.6960 Raveningham Hall. The pic is dated 8th March 2016.
Shot seven from Colin shows ex LMS, Fowler class '4F' 0-6-0 tender locomotive, No.44422, working hard in fantastic light on 10th March 2016. The location was Ker Moor and the date, 11th March 2016.
The next two shots are from Alan Rigby and David Wood. The first from Alan shows a shot by Rainford Junction signal box (first for the blog?) taken on 22nd March 2016. Pictured is DBS class 67, 67018 Keith Heller, working Knowsley Freight Terminal - Wakefield K Whitams Cobra - return working Route Learner.
The final four shots are from Jeff Nicholls. First up is a class 57/37 combination at Red Bank on 23rd March 2016. Pictured are class 57, 57312 and class 37, 37062 on a Crewe - Sellafield nuclear flask working.
Next is double heading class 90's at Winwick with a foreground showing seed planting in the adjacent field. The locos are DBS class 90s, 90039 and 90035 on a Dollands Moor - Irvine china clay slurry working. The 90's failed subsequently further north and had to be rescued. The pic is dated 23rd March 2016.
Jeff's third shot features EWS (DBS) class 66, 66145 at Culcheth with a Tees Yard - Arpley Yard working of bogie flats destined for a new flow of rubbish, from Knowsley to Teeside. The pic is dated 21st March 2016.
The 'Royal' class 67s are pictured in the final shot in this post, from Jeff. He has no info to add to this post as the working appeared without warning. The locos were 67006 (Royal Sovereign)T and 67005 (Royal Messenger)T; the location was Winwick; the date was 23rd March 2016.
