From Winwick to Germany

This is the start of several smaller posts, at shorter intervals, reflecting the number of images sent in from some regular contributors. Today's post, 28th July 2015, begins at Winwick and ends at Osterfeld Sud, Germany. Fourteen pics are included from five contributors.


WINWICK AND BEYOND



Ieuan Wood has sent in our first shot, taken at Winwick on 23rd July 2015. The 4-loco consist was on its way from Washwood Heath to Bo'ness; the locos were 31601, 50007 Hercules, 40106 and 50017 Royal Oak.










Next are four pics from Alan Rigby. His first features the celebrity liveried DBS class 60, 60066 carrying the "Powering Tomorrow  DRAX" legend on the side. The working was Seaforth - Tinsley steel, the location was Earlestown and the date, 24th July 2015.









Carr Mill viaduct is the location for Alan's second shot. Pictured is DRS class 47, 47818 pushing  Network Rail, Control Inspection Saloon 975025, Caroline, on a Liverpool Lime Street - Preston working. The pic is dated 23rd July 2015.









Pics three and four from Alan show loco pics from the ELR  on 26th July 2015. First up is Bulleid 'West Country' class 4-6-2 No.34092 still carrying the shortened name Wells. The location was Rawtenstall.










Alan's fourth shot was taken at Irwell Vale and depicts resident class 37, 37418 (D6971) in BR Large Logo Blue livery (no numbers, logos or name at present).











Following on from the previous post are three more class 37 pics from Geoff Monks, taken in Cumbria. First up is DRS (Nuclear Traffic) 37218 approaching Millom Station on a Carlisle - Preston passenger service on 15th July 2015.










Next is the same working as above but taken between Dalton-in-Furness and Ulverston on the same day.












Geoff's third pic features 37218 again but taken between Parton and Whitehaven on a Carlisle - Barrow passenger service, on the same date, 15th July 2015.











John Smith has sent in the next shot. Pictured is ex LMS Stanier 'Princess Coronation' class 4-6-2, No.46233 Duchess of Sutherland on the Cumbrian Mountain Express on 18th Jluy 2015. The location is St helens Central and the train was travelling Liverpool Lime St - Carlisle and return.









Belmond's 'The Royal Scotsman' 7-night tour of GB is up next -  taken at Red Bank on 12th July 2015 by David Wood. Pictured is WCRC class 47, 47854 heading the railtour from Dundee to Chester on Day Three of the tour. On the tail of the luxury train is WCRC class 57, 57315. 































To end this post, four pics taken on a recent German holiday now follow, all from Alan Rigby. His first (top left) shows electric loco 152 135 at Duisburg Enfantang, a DB loco in advertising livery. The pic is dated 7th July 2015.

Next (top right) is a pic taken at Oberhausen Yard on 6th July 2015. Pictured are 192 210 and 261 310.

Shunting in the same Oberhausen Yard on the same date was 212 376 - (bottom left).

Galatea on the 'NWCE'

Twenty four shots - a record number -  are included in today's post, 24th July 2015. Nine photographers have contributed..


WINWICK AND BEYOND


Our first four pics are from Alan Rigby. First up is a shot of  a German diesel locomotive, No. 225 010 taken at Oberhausen Yards on 8th July 2015.  The locos are nicknamed 'Rabbits' because of the 2 stick up bits on the roof like rabbits' ears.







Next is  a shot of the Liverpool - Holyhead, 'North Wales Coast Express' taken on 19th July 2015. The location is Frodsham Viaduct and the engine at the head is ex LMS Stanier 'Jubilee' class 4-6-0, No.45699 Galatea,








Alan's third pic shows DBS class 60, 60001 working Seaforth - Tinsley empty steel wagons through St Helens Junction. The pic is dated 17th July 2015.








Fourth shot from Alan depicts GBRf class 66, 66711 Sence, in Aggregate Industries livery at Winwick on 20th July 2015. The working was Ironbridge - LBT,








John Smith has sent in the following three shots. First up is the  ex LMS Stanier 'Princess Coronation' class 4-6-2, No.46233 Duchess of Sutherland, on the Carlisle - Liverpool return leg of  the 'Cumbrian Mountain Express'. The pic is dated 18th July 2015 and the location was St Helens Central Station.






John's second shot features a Freightliner class 66, seven loco light engine consist, passing through Winwick on 17th July 2015. The locos were 66519, 515, 528, 598, 419, 562 and 565 on a Crewe - Carlisle working. 







The Aggregate Industries liveried class 66 of GBRf, 66711 Sence, is pictured next, pic number three from John. The working was Ironbridge - LBT empty biomass, the date was 7th July 2015, and the location was St Helens Junc.







The next four shots are all courtesy of Geoff Monks. The first shows DRS class 37, 37419 passing between Nethertown and Braystones on June 11th 2015. The service was Carlisle - Barrow.








Number two from Geoff features DRS class 37, 37409 between Ulverston and Dalton-in-Furness on a Preston - Barrow train on 11th June 2015. 








DRS class 37, 37409 is pictured again between Braystones and Nethertown on a Barrow-Carlisle train on 15th July 2015. 









The Aggregate Industries GBRf class 66, 66711 Sence, is pictured again in Geoff's fourth shot. This was taken at Winwick on 18th July 2015; the working was Ironbridge - LBT empty biomass.








My own shot now follows. I was at Lea Green on 19th July 2015 for the 'North Wales Coast Express' working Liverpool-Holyhead and return. The loco, ex LMS class '6P' 4-6-0, No.45699 Galatea failed at Llandudno, and was replaced with a diesel.







The next three shots are from Bevan Price. First up is a shot of the unique, ex Haydock Colliery (built 1874) 0-6-0 Well Tank, Bellerophon, known as 'Owd Bell'. Bellerophon and Wissington are pictured leaving Foxfield Colliery, banked by Florence No.2 at the Foxfield Railway Steam Gala on 19th July 2015. On the left is a 0-4-0 crane tank, Kerr Stuart 4101.





Pic two from Bevan depicts Pecket 0-4-0 diesel shunter Austins No.1 at the Middleton Railway's 'Hunslet 150' event on 18th July 2015.The location is Moors Road crossing.








Class 31, D5580 is next, in this third shot from Bevan. The loco is departing Ruddington Fields at the GCR (Northern) Diesel Gala on 11th July 2015.








David Wood's shot of the ex LMS 'Jubilee'-hauled 'North Wales Coast Express' now follows. No.45699 Galatea was pictured at Whiston on 19th July 2015.








Next are a few shots left "on file" and not yet used.



The first three are from David Quayle. His first shows ex GWR Collett 0-4-2 tank, No.1450, at Arley signal box on the SVR, on 21st March 2015.










David's second shot features ex LNER Gresley 'D49' class 4-4-0, No,62712 Morayshire, at Barrow Hill Roundhouse on 14th March 2015.









Next from David is the ex GWR Churchward class '28xx' 2-8-0 No.2857, pictured crossing Victoria Bridge over the River Severn on the SVR. The pic is dated 21st March 2015.









The WSR is the venue for the next three shots from Colin Platt. The first was taken ast Minehead on 27th March 2015 and features ex BR 'Britannia'class 4-6-2, No 70000 Britannia masquerading as No.70021 Morning Star, standing beside ex GWR 2-6-2T No.4160. The latter is part of the '5101' class of  'large prairies', modifications of G. J. Churchward's class '3100' (built 1903), by Charles Collett.






Colin's second shot features the ex GWR 'Modified Hall' class 4-6-0, No.6960 Raveningham Hall at Blue Anchor, on the WSR on 27th March h 2015.









The ex BR 'Britannia' class 4-6-2, No.70021 Morning Star (details above), is pictured again on the WSR on a passenger service on 27th March 2015; Colin's third shot.








The next two shots are from Jeff Nicholls. First up is this one taken at Arley (SVR) on 31st March 2015. Ex SR Bulleid 'Light Pacific' 4-6-2, No.34053 Sir Keith Park, is pictured with a passenger service.








This shot also from Jeff, completes the longest post ever compiled for the AWL blog. Pictured is EWS (DBS) class 67, 67022, on a Chester - Manchester service through Winwick Quay, on 4th July 2015.

WSR Steam.

This post, 19th July 2015, comprises sixteen pics from five contributors, including several steam locomotives from an early West Somerset Railway Gala.


WINWICK & BEYOND


First up today are five shots from Colin Platt. The West Somerset Railway shots are from the March Gala held earlier this year;  the other is a recent Beeston shot. This one show ex BR 'Standard' 4-6-2,  No 70000 Britannia masquerading as No.70021 Morning Star at Williton, on 26th March 2015.










Colin's second shot features Ivatt class '2', 2-6-0, No.46521 with a passenger service running  between Blue Anchor and Dunster, on 27th March 2015.










One of the '2800' class of 2-8-0 locomotives introduced by G.J.Churchward in 1902 is shown on a freight working on 27th March 2015. This loco, No. 3850, is one of the improved last batch ('2884' class) from 1938, introduced by Charles Collett. The freight working was shot on the approach to Blue Anchor on the West Somerset Railway (WSR). 







Colin's fourth shot, also from the WSR, was taken on 27th March 2015 and features ex GWR 2-6-2T large 'Prairie' tank No.4160, on a passenger service. The location was Bishops Lydeard station.









Beeston was the location for the final run of Bulleid large 'Pacific' No.35028 Clan Line, before its 'ticket' expired. Colin's shot was taken on 30th June 2015; the railtour was London Victoria - Chester.








The next three shots are from Geoff Monks. First up is Colas Rail class 56, 56078 at Winwick on 9th July 2015. The working was Sinfin - Grangemouth, empty aviation fuel tanks.








Next from Geoff is DRS (nuclear traffic) class 37, 37611 at Winwick, on a Carlisle - Derby test train. The pic is dated 10th July.









Geoff's third and final shot features GBRf class 66, 66711 in Aggregate Industries livery, at Whiston, on 11th July 2015. The working was LBT - Ironbridge loaded biomass.









The next shot is one of my efforts. The Stanier ex LMS 'Princess Coronation' class 4-6-2, No.46233 Duchess of Sutherland, is pictured traversing Carr Mill viaduct with the 'Cumbrian Mountain Express' on 18th July 2015. 







The same working is the subject of David Wood's shot, up next, but taken at Eccleston Park on the same date.










David has also sent in the next couple of shots. This one features the 5-loco consist travelling back from the ELR Gala to Bo'ness. They were 31601, 37025 Inverness TMD, 20020, 47643 and 26026. The date was 13th July 2015 and the location, Parkside.








The third of David's pics was taken at Acton Bridge on 6th July 2015. Pictured is DVT 82145 in Network Rail colours, with EWS (DRS) class 67, 67008. The working was Derby-Liverpool L.S.








The next four shots are from Jeff Nicholls. First up is the same 5-loco consist as above but passing Astley signal box on the same date, 13th July 2015.










Jeff's second pic shows ex BR class 40, No.345 leaving Ramsbottom on a Heywood - Rawtenstall service on 3rd July 2015.The locomotive was built at the Vulcan Foundry and came into service on 17th May 1961 as D345. She was withdrawn from service after suffering accidental damage in June 1983, and purchased by the ELR at Bury in February 1984.





EWS (DBS) class 66, 66250 is the subject of pic number three from Jeff. The working was Avonmouth - Clitheroe empty cement ranks and the location was Winwick Quay.









The fourth and final shot in this post, from Jeff, depicts ELR's class 26, 26038 Tom Clift 1954-2012, on a Ramsbottom-Rawtenstall service on the same date, 3rd July 2015.
