This post, 19th July 2015, comprises sixteen pics from five contributors, including several steam locomotives from an early West Somerset Railway Gala.
WINWICK & BEYOND
First up today are five shots from Colin Platt. The West Somerset Railway shots are from the March Gala held earlier this year; the other is a recent Beeston shot. This one show ex BR 'Standard' 4-6-2, No 70000 Britannia masquerading as No.70021 Morning Star at Williton, on 26th March 2015.
Colin's second shot features Ivatt class '2', 2-6-0, No.46521 with a passenger service running between Blue Anchor and Dunster, on 27th March 2015.
One of the '2800' class of 2-8-0 locomotives introduced by G.J.Churchward in 1902 is shown on a freight working on 27th March 2015. This loco, No. 3850, is one of the improved last batch ('2884' class) from 1938, introduced by Charles Collett. The freight working was shot on the approach to Blue Anchor on the West Somerset Railway (WSR).
Colin's fourth shot, also from the WSR, was taken on 27th March 2015 and features ex GWR 2-6-2T large 'Prairie' tank No.4160, on a passenger service. The location was Bishops Lydeard station.
Beeston was the location for the final run of Bulleid large 'Pacific' No.35028 Clan Line, before its 'ticket' expired. Colin's shot was taken on 30th June 2015; the railtour was London Victoria - Chester.
The next three shots are from Geoff Monks. First up is Colas Rail class 56, 56078 at Winwick on 9th July 2015. The working was Sinfin - Grangemouth, empty aviation fuel tanks.
Next from Geoff is DRS (nuclear traffic) class 37, 37611 at Winwick, on a Carlisle - Derby test train. The pic is dated 10th July.
Geoff's third and final shot features GBRf class 66, 66711 in Aggregate Industries livery, at Whiston, on 11th July 2015. The working was LBT - Ironbridge loaded biomass.
The next shot is one of my efforts. The Stanier ex LMS 'Princess Coronation' class 4-6-2, No.46233 Duchess of Sutherland, is pictured traversing Carr Mill viaduct with the 'Cumbrian Mountain Express' on 18th July 2015.
The same working is the subject of David Wood's shot, up next, but taken at Eccleston Park on the same date.
David has also sent in the next couple of shots. This one features the 5-loco consist travelling back from the ELR Gala to Bo'ness. They were 31601, 37025 Inverness TMD, 20020, 47643 and 26026. The date was 13th July 2015 and the location, Parkside.
The third of David's pics was taken at Acton Bridge on 6th July 2015. Pictured is DVT 82145 in Network Rail colours, with EWS (DRS) class 67, 67008. The working was Derby-Liverpool L.S.
The next four shots are from Jeff Nicholls. First up is the same 5-loco consist as above but passing Astley signal box on the same date, 13th July 2015.
Jeff's second pic shows ex BR class 40, No.345 leaving Ramsbottom on a Heywood - Rawtenstall service on 3rd July 2015.The locomotive was built at the Vulcan Foundry and came into service on 17th May 1961 as D345. She was withdrawn from service after suffering accidental damage in June 1983, and purchased by the ELR at Bury in February 1984.
EWS (DBS) class 66, 66250 is the subject of pic number three from Jeff. The working was Avonmouth - Clitheroe empty cement ranks and the location was Winwick Quay.
The fourth and final shot in this post, from Jeff, depicts ELR's class 26, 26038 Tom Clift 1954-2012, on a Ramsbottom-Rawtenstall service on the same date, 3rd July 2015.
