Britain's Heritage Railways/Museums etc feature strongly in today's post, 27th May 2014.
WINWICK & ELSEWHERE
First up are three pics from Colin Platt all taken on the NYM Railway in April. The first shows the 1937 built Gresley 'A4' 4-6-2, No.4464 Bittern, of Jeremy Hosking. The loco is pictured leaving Grosmont on 26th April 2014, passing privately owned class 37, 37264.
Pic two is another from Colin, taken at Grosmont, this one featuring Stanier 'Black Five' 4-6-0, No.45407 The Lancashire Fusilier. The service is shown passing the engine shed on the same date, 26th April 2014.
Colin's third pic shows the Thompson 'B1' class 4-6-0, No.61034 (61264) Chiru. The service has left Goathland on 26th April 2014.
The following two pics are from Ieuan Wood. 'The Seaside Flyer' excursion is pictured at Shotton with Collett 'Castle' class 4-6-0, No.5043 Earl of Mount Edgcumbe in charge. The pic is dated 24th April 2014.
Ieuan's second shot was taken at Red Bank on 19th May 2014. Depicted are Freightliner class 86s, 86638 and 86637 on an intermodal working.
Jeff Nicholls has sent in two pics both taken at Culcheth. EWS (DBS) class 66, 66076 is pictured on a Ditton - Dollands Moor working, diverted via Chat Moss because of engineering work at Weaver Junction.The pic is dated 25th May 2104.
Pic number seven overall, and Jeff's second shows a consist of four diesel locomotives travelling from the Nene Valley Railway to the ELR on 22nd May 2014. The lead loco is class 56, 56312 hauling class 37, 37324, Clydebridge class 40, 40135 (D335) and class 47, 47402 (D1501). The DCR class 56 is named Jeremiah Dixon. Son of County Durham. Surveyor of the Mason-Dixon Line USA.
Alan Rigby has sent in a couple of shots showing close ups of two members of the above consist. The first depicts class 37, 37324 Clydebridge, at Earlestown on the same date, 22nd May 2014.
A third shot from Alan, number ten overall, was taken at Winwick on 22nd May 2014. A NRTT (Network Rail Test Train) is featured with class 97, 97301 at the head.
The following three pics are from John Smith. GBRf class 66, 66743, is pictured at Chelford in pic number eleven, heading an intermodal, Felixstowe - Trafford Park. The pic is dated 21st May 2014.
EWS (DBS) class 66, 66007 is shown next, heading empty bogie well wagons on a Trafford Park- Crewe working. John's shot was also taken at Chelford on 21st May 2014.
John's third shot, number thirteen overall, was also taken at Chelford on the same date. Pictured is Freightliner' PowerHaul' class 70, 70018, on a Trafford Park - Southampton intermodal working.
Five shots from David Quayle now follow, taken at various locations within the Heritage Railway movement. Pic number fourteen was taken on the Bressingham on 14th May 2014. Featured is Norwegian State Railways' class 21c No.377 King Haakon, built in Sweden in 1919. The loco was being painted black for an appearance in a film, said to be Tarzan.
Pic fifteen was taken on the North Norfolk Railway at Weybourne on 15th May 2014. Pictured is the only preserved 4-6-0 with inside cylinders, Holden GER class 'B12', No.1572, (LNER 8572, BR 61572).
David's next three shots were all taken on the Nene Valley Railway on 7th May 2014. Pic sixteen features a S160, 2-8-0 freight locomotive used by the US Army and shipped to Britain in huge numbers during WWII. No.6046 was built in 1945 by the US Baldwin Locomotive Company and shipped directly to France - see the Internet for more info. The shot of a passenger service was taken at Wansford.
Pic seventeen also from the NVR was taken at Wansford on 7th May 2014. BR 'Standard' class '5MT' 4-6-0, No.73050 City of Peterborough, is pictured with class 31, 31108 (of A1A Locomotives Ltd) behind.
Finally, shot number eighteen shows a Swedish Railcar, No1212 Helga, at Wansford on the NVR on the same date, 7th May 2014.
