More ELR pics

Today's post, 30th October 2013, comprises eleven pics from just three contributors. The ELR is well represented with five pics in the Alternatives section.

First up are four pics from Jeff Nicholls Pic number one shows an engineers working, Crewe-Carlisle headed by Freightliner 'PowerHaul' class 70, 70006 with Freightliner class 66, 66551 dead-in-tow behind. ELR and MHR re-visited

Today's post, 22nd October 2013, comprises a bumper  twenty pics from seven contributors; several pics are from recent East Lancs and Mid Hants Railways' visits.

First up is a foursome from Jeff Nicholls. Pic one shows Stanier 'Pacific' No.46233 Duchess of Sutherland at Culcheth  on an ELR - Tyseley working, with support. The date was 21st October 2013.

Jeff's second pic features a double heading light engine move through Winwick. The locos were DRS class 57, 57308 County of  Staffordshire and DRS class 66, 66423. The pic is dated 15th October 2013.

In Jeff's fourth shot preserved class 86, 86259 Les Ross, is in charge of the 'Cumbrian Mountain Express' as it passes northbound, through Winwick on 16th October 2013. Fowler/Stanier 'Royal Scot' class 4-6-0, No.46115 Scots Guardsman, was to take over at Carnforth.

First up in this section are a couple of pics from Alan Rigby. Pic number seven, overall, features a Network Rail, Rail Head Treatment Train (RHTT) with class 97s front and rear. The locos were 97302 and 97303. The location was Hargrave and the date 17th October 2013.

David Quayle has sent in the following three pics all taken during a September visit to the Mid Hants Railway, otherwise known as 'The Watercress Line'. Pic number nine shows a fine line up of locomotive power headed by class 37s - 37901 (D6850) and D6836; behind are class 50 -50027 Lion (D427), class 08 - D3358 (08288), Ivatt class' 2MT' No.41312, bits of class 30s - 30828 and 30506 and ex SR 'N' class 2-6-0 No.1874 (31874), ex SR Bulleid 'WC' class No.34016 Bodmin and ex SR Maunsell 'U' class No.31625. The location was Ropley and the date, 11th September 2013.

A Geoff Monks' due follow next; the first is a scan from his superb Kodachrome 25 slides. Pic number twelve features Collett 'Castle' class 4-6-0 No.5051 Drysllwyn Castle double heading with Collett 'Hall' class 4-6-0 No. 4930 Hagley Hall. The Paddington - Plymouth railtour is shown exiting Bristol Temple Meads station on 7th July 1985 (diesel hauled Paddington - Bristol). The locos stalled on Dainton Bank and the train was diesel hauled back to Paddington.  Bristol Bath Road diesel depot,  top right, includes a class 45/46 'Peak. 
 

Fowler class 3F 0-6-0T, No.47406 or 'Jinty,' is pictured in Geoff's next shot, number thirteen, at Woodthorpe Lane on a Loughborough - Swithland goods working. The occasion was the GCR Gala and the date, 6th October 2013.

Pic nineteen shows an empty biomass working, Drax Power Station - Tyne Dock, taken at Knottingly on 7th September 2013. Pictured is GBRf class 66, 66747.


 
 





The last but certainly not least pic in this section, and post, is from John Smith. This working has been covered in several previous posts but this pic was taken at Garswood on 1st October 2013. Featured are class 37s, 37612 and 37038 on a Crewe - Crewe NR working,  via Liverpool, Wigan and Manchester.

'Semi', 'Jub' and 'Spam Can'.

Add a BR 'Standard' class '5' to the list in the post title and you have a superb selection of steam locos in today's post, 15th October 2013. Plenty of diesel traction also among the eleven pics from four contributors.

Stanier 'Jubilee' class 4-6-0, No.45699 Galatea is next, pic number three, again from Ieuan. The 'special' was for  the Lune Rivers Trust, the date was 28th September 2013, and the location was Winwick.

 For interest Jeff has written an eight page article on 'Warrington in the 1980's ' for the current Traction magazine, using his own pics. Great to see one of our own contributors taking on such work.
 
 
The final pic in this section, number seven, is the fourth from Jeff Nicholls. A Network Rail Test Train (NWTT) is pictured at Winwick on 2nd October 2013. Three yellow coaches are sandwiched between DRS class 37s - 37612T & T37038.

'Pics of the Month, August 2013' - RESULTS

Geoff Monks and Alan Rigby are the winners of the Winwick and Alternative UK competitions for August - congratulations to both of you. Today's post, 10th October 2013, is dedicated to the winners' shots and those of runners up.

WINWICK


1st August W11  Geoff Monks

The winning pic features  EWS (DBS) class 66, 66011 leaving Latchford north side loop on a Garston-Arpley working of empty car transporter wagons. This pic is dated 16th August 2013.





2nd August W14 Jeff Nicholls

Double heading DRS locos are shown in Jeff's shot. Class 37, 37425 is paired with class 57, 57004 on an empty, spent nuclear fuel working from Sellafield. The destination was Crewe, the location was Winwick and the date was 24th August 2013.

Alan's shot shows the first leg of the  IT57 'special', taken at Widnes at 11th August 2013. Stanier 'Black Five' 4-6-0, No.45305, was at the head for the Liverpool - Manchester leg.

Colin's pic features Thompson 'B1' class 4-6-0 No. 61264 masquerading as No.61002 Impala. The shot was taken at Grosmont on the NYMR on 14th August 2013.

Class 20's on a Railtour

As the title describes this post, 5th October 2013, features an unusual railtour, headed or topped and tailed by two class 20 locos, touring England and Scotland. This post also includes the final few September dated pics to qualify for the Pic of the Month - September 2013. Voting can start for the September competition on 8th October 2013.


WINWICK


First up are four pics from Jeff Nicholls. Pic number one shows DRS top and tail class 37s, 37612 and 37038 on a Crewe-Wigan-Warrington-Liverpool Lime Street-Manchester Victoria-Ince Moss Network Rail Test Train. The train is passing through Winwick on 2nd October 2013.

Jeff's second shot is of the same working on the same day at the same location but as the pic suggests on a different line, after the tractors got stuck into the field.

Jeff's third pic is of the restored Stanier 'Jubilee' class 4-6-0, No.45699 Galatea. Jeff says the this was the first time for over fifty years that he had seen this loco and how superb does Galatea look in gleaming LMS red. The location was Golborne and the date 28th September 2013. The railtour was the 'Lune Rivers Trust Special'.

Pic number four, also from Jeff, shows a Freightliner class 66, 66516, dragging two Freightliner class 86s, 86605 and 86632, (at least one must have failed) through Winwick with a Coatbridge - Crewe intermodal working. This pic is dated 2nd October 2013.

David Wood has sent in pics five and six. Pic five shows a WCRC class 47 heading Pullman carriages on a Fort William - Euston railtour through Winwick on 29th September 2013. The special was the 'West Highland and Jacobite Statesman' and it was top and tailed by WCRC class 47, 47826 and WCRC class 57, 57314.   Code - September W12
