A Dozen for July

Twelve July dated pics from six contributors comprise today's post - 25th July 2013.
 

WINWICK
 

First up is a pic from Geoff Monks featuring Colas Rail class 56s, 56105 and 56087, double heading the Carlisle - Chirk logs working. The location was the old Cheshire Lines bridge adjacent to Froghall Lane; the date was 11th July 2013.

Next, pic number two, shows Aviva liveried class 57, 57303 guiding the rebuilt Bullied 'Light Pacific' ('WC' class) No. 34046 Braunton, through Winwick on the steam loco's route, Carnforth - Southall. The pic is from John Smith and the date was 23rd July 2013.

The Colas Rail class 56, 56105 is again the focus in pic number three, from John Smith. The working is the logs again, Carlisle - Chirk, and the location was Winwick. The pic is dated 23rd July 2013.

The fourth pic is also from John Smith. DRS class 37s are featured, double heading an intermodal through Winwick, on 23rd July 2013. The locos were 37606 and 37602.

The fifth and final pic in this section is from yours truly, just to prove that I do take railway shots occasionally. The location was Newton-le-Willows station and the date, today, 25th July 2013. The loco is ex BR 'Standard' class '7' 4-6-2, No.70013 Oliver Cromwell on a Southall - Crewe - Castleton Hopwood GF working. On the Southall - Crewe leg 70013 was accompanied by Bullied 'BoB' class 4-6-2, No.34067 Tangmere. Both locos had diesel support (in connection with lineside fires?). 70013 was 'pushed' by WCRC class 47, 47245, from Crewe.   Code - July W11

'The Great Gathering'

You must have been living on Mars if you haven't heard of the 'Streak' extravaganza taking place at the NRM. 'The Great Gathering' has brought together the six surviving Gresley 'A4s' from the UK, America and Canada. This post, 16th May 2013, includes several shots of this event celebrating the 75th Anniversary of Mallard's world record of 126mph - 'Mallard 75'. Other shots are also included giving us a total of eighteen pics from seven contributors.


WINWICK


First up is a shot from Geoff Monks. Pictured are double heading Colas Rail class 56s, 56105 and 56087 on the Carlisle - Chirk logs working. The location was Winwick and the date, 9th July 2013.

The following three pics have been sent in by Jeff Nicholls. Pic number two shows an empty gypsum working, Newbiggin - FFPS, at Arpley.  GBRf class 66, 66746 is at the head. The pic is dated 10th July 2013.

Double heading DRS class 66s are up next, in pic number three. Jeff's shot shows the pair heading the Tesco express intermodal through Winwick on 10th July 2013. The locos were 66429 and Malcolm liveried, 66434.

Jeff's next pic, number four features three locos - two DRS  class 57s and a Freightliner class 66. The 57s are dragging the failed 66 on a Hunterston - FFPS coal  working. The 57s later 'top and tailed' the train to the power station. The locos were 57011, 57007 and 66596.

ALTERNATIVE UK PICS


David Hennessey has sent in pics seven, eight and nine all taken at the recent ELR Diesel Gala. First up, pic number seven is a shot of class 47, D1501 Gateshead, at Bury Bolton Street. Beside the 47 is Deltic class 55, 55022 Royal Scots Grey. The pic is dated 5th July 2013.

The next four pics were all taken at the NRM 'Mallard 75' event, by David Quayle. David was one of 50 people allowed in before the event opened on 8th July 2013. The first pic, number ten overall, is a 'joiner' with several pics pasted together to form a panorama. The locos L to R are No.60007 Sir Nigel Gresley, 60008 Dwight D. Eisenhower, 60009 Union of South Africa,  4464 Bittern, 4468 Mallard and 4489 Dominion of Canada.

Final June-dated Pics

As described in the previous post, the final qualifying June-dated pics are included today, 5th July 2013. Also as described, because I was inundated with such pics not all of them have been shown, but everyone has been represented.

In the 'Pic of the Year' competitions last year, when the Winwick and Alternative monthly sections were large (25 entries or more), the winners and second placed pics from each month went forward for the 'Best' awards at the end of the year. This procedure will be repeated in 2013. To the present date the following monthly sections comprised 25 entries or more - Feb (A), April (A), May (W) and (A), June (W) and (A). Only the winning entry will go forward from the other sections.

'Pics of the Month, May 2013'. RESULTS

Congratulations to David Wood and Andy Parkinson, the winners of our competitions for May. Today's post, 3rd July 2013, shows the leading entries for May.

I will follow this post with another in the next couple of days and show the final June pics to qualify for the June competitions.  Apologies if some of your June pics are overlooked but I cannot show all entries - I have been inundated with pics lately.


WINWICK

1st May W3  by David Wood


A Network Rail train is shown at Winwick with DRS class 37s in charge. They were 37602 (Top) and 37610 (Tail). The date was 8th May 2013.





2nd May W18  by Jeff Nicholls


Same as above. Two DRS class 37s are featured which were regulars on our patch at the beginning of May. In this pic three Network Rail measurement coaches are sandwiched between DRS class 37, 37602 (top) and DRS class 37, 37610 T.S. Cassady (tail). The pic is dated 8th May 2013 and the location was Winwick

Two class 37s and a class 66 are shown about to pass at Winwick on 1st May 2013. The two DRS class 37s were 37611 (Top) and 37603 (Tail) with a Network Rail train; the DRS class 66 was 66433, on an intermodal working.
