For this brief post, 14th January 2012, I am using the three prints, all showing steam locos, that finished as joint runners up in the 2011 competition for 'Pic of the Year'. They were from John Smith, Bob McClellan and another one from Geoff Monks.
Ex LMS Stanier 'Pacific', No.6201 Princess Elizabeth, passed through Winwick on 26th March 2011, en route to Carlisle. John photographed 'The Settle & Carlisle' charter at Red Bank.
Bob McClellan's shot depicts one of the wonderful little industrial workhorses found at the Chasewater Railway. The pic is dated 19th March 2011. The Barclay 0-4-0ST No.3, Colin McAndrew, is pictured exuding copious amounts of exhaust for Bob and his co-photographers.
The third shot to finish joint second is from Geoff Monks; it fully complements his winning shot shown in the February 9th post. This one was taken against an early morning sunrise at the NCB Waterside System in Ayrshire. Andrew Barclay No.1338 (built 1913) is seen ready for work on 28th December 1976. Now, number 17, this 0-6-0T loco is under storage at the Tanfield Railway, Gateshead.
There has been a poor response to date for our 'Pic of the Month, January 2012' competition. Please vote - I have made it very easy for you by highlighting the qualifying pics between Jan 1st and Feb 8th (the date that the rules appeared on the blog). All readers/viewers/contributors are eligible to vote.
