Poland re-visited

Today's post, 30 June 2018, includes pics from Jeff Nicholls' recent visit to Poland and another six from closer to home, from Geoff Monks.


WINWICK and BEYOND 






First up are 12  pics from Jeff Nicholls, taken in Poland. This pic shows EP07 383 on station pilot duties at Poznan. Pic is dated 26 June 2018.






Eu07 238 is similarly based on the above, but with different gearing. The pic was taken at a Railway Day in a town called Miedzyrzecz. Pic is dated 23 June 2018.





MR4080 is an Arriva Trains DMU.  Strange to see the familiar livery in Poland.  Pic is dated 23 June 2018.








OL49 59 is in steam in Wolsztyn depot on 25 June 2018, in readiness for the following day.








The two OL49s were doing a parallel run with empty stock and loads of smoke on 22 June 2018.








The pic shows the same OL49 locos as in the pic above, idle in Wolsztyn Station.  The loco on the extreme right is derelict but has a few oily rags lit up in the smoke box. Pic is dated 22 June 2018.






OL49 69 leaves Stefanowo with a steam special on 24 June 2018.









OL49 69 again on the main line between Nowy Tomsyl and Zbaszyn photographed from another steam special running in parallel with it.  Pic dated 24 June 2018.










This modern unit was pictured at Gorzow Wielkopolska with an empty stock working passing a signal box of superb design. Pic is dated 23 June 2018.

















Diesels SM42 1093 (l) and SM42 1293 (r) were photographed in PKP Cargo livery inside the old steam warehouse at Leszno, on 21 and 23 June respectively.







The 2-8-2 tank, Tk48 143, was pictured at Wolsztyn depot on 22 June 2018, where it is preserved, but not in working order.







The final six images are from Geoff Monks. DRS class 66, 66303, was working a Mountsorrel - Crewe ballast train at Millmeece, on 22 May 2018.







DB class 66, 66027, was heading a 'fresh air' intermodal from Trafford Park to London Gateway on 23 May 2018. The location was Hatton Mill.







GBRf class 66, 66779 Evening Star, is shown on the Norton Bridge avoiding line, on 23 May 2018. The working was a Toton - Crewe departmental.







Freightliner class 86s - 86608 and 86639 - are depicted on a Felixstow to Trafford Park intermodal; at the  same location as above and on the same date.







GBRf class 66, 66750 Bristol Panel Signal Box,  is featured on a Gloucester - Clitheroe (Castle Cement) working at Winwick, on 28 May 2018. ** Note the 4-wheel wagons.






GBRf class 66, 66766,  is pictured on a late-running Clitheroe Castle Cement) - Avonmouth (Hanson's Siding) working at Winwick on 11th June 2018.






And now, a very sad but important announcement. Because the number of contributors is just a small fraction of the 50+ that regularly sent in pics to me in the past, (we have been blogging together since January 2010) I must admit that the blog, in its present form, has run its course. Therefore,  I will no longer be accepting contributions for AWL but will leave the blog as you find  it today; I will not close it down. I hope that one or more of our contributors, past or present, will take over. If so, please get in touch and arrange a meeting. Thank you to everyone who has supported AWL by contributing or viewing, or championing us far and wide.

Twenty-eight images

WINWICK and BEYOND




The first ten pics are from Geoff Monks. First up is Pendolino 390 010, Cumbrian Spirit, in new Virgin livery, on a Euston-Glasgow train at Winwick on 13 May 2018.






Number two features double heading Freightliner class 90s, 90041 and 90043, on a Daventry - Coatbridge intermodal at Winwick, on 13 May 2018.







Location was Millmeece for pic number three, with Freightliner class 70, 70015 on a Felixstowe-Ditton intermodal. The pic was taken between Stafford and Crewe on 14 May 2018.







DB Class 66, 66017, is up next on a Southampton - Garston vehicle working, on 14th May. The location was Millmeece again.







Chiltern Railways class 68, 68011, is shown at Birmingham MS (Moor Street) on a train to Marylebone (loco propelling) on 16th May 2018.







Freightliner class 70, 70003 is up next pictured approaching Leamington Spa Station with a Crewe - Southampton intermodal. The pic is dated 16 May 2018.







Chiltern Railways class 68, 68013, is shown at Leamington Spa Station on 16th May 2018.  The train was working Marylebone - Birmingham MS (a 'stitched' shot to produce a panorama).






DB (EWS livery) class 66, 66112 is pictured at Leamington Spa on the same date, 16 May 2018. The working was a Trafford Park - Southampton 'fresh air' intermodal.








Same place, same date for DB (EWS livery) class 66, 66080 on a Southampton - Birch Coppice intermodal.







Last but not least from Geoff is DR class 68, 68005 Defiant, heading a Birmingham MS - Marylebone  train. Leamington Spa on 16 May 2018 again.







The next five pics are from Jeff Nicholls all taken at the recent SVR Diesel Gala. His first features class 33, 33108 (D6521) at Highley. on a Kidderminster - Bridgnorth  passenger service. the pic is dated 17 May 2018.







Next is diesel class 5,  55019 '(D9019) Royal Highland Fusilier smoking' nicely at Highley on a Bridgnorth - Kidderminster service. Same date as above.







Same date and place for DRS class 88, 88010 and class 20, 20189 (D8189) on a Kidderminster - Bridgnorth service.









Two noisy 'Warship' class diesel hydraulics are up next, D821 Greyhound and D832 Onslaught. Both were at Highley on 17 May 2018 with a Bridgnorth - Kidderminster service.








Pic five from Jeff depicts a Ruston and Hornsby 0-4-0 diesel shunter D2961, which worked for Patent Shaft Steel at the Wednesbury factory. Two others D2957 and D2958 worked for BR.






Bevan Price has sent in the next four pics. His first was taken at Annan on 21 May 2018. Freightliner class 66, 66516 is pictured with a Killoch - Port Talbot MGR.







Next is Colas Rail class 60, 60002 taken near Ramsgreave on 23 May 2018.  The class is hauling a Carlisle - Chirk logs working.







The next two pics were taken at Sowerby Bridge on 23 May 2018. Colas Rail 60087 CLIC Sergent is pictured with a Preston - Lyndsey tanks working.







Freightliner class 66, 66525 is shown with a Redcar - Fiddlers Ferry MGR.









The next nine pics are all from Jeff Nicholls. His first shows a brace of class 150 dmu's at Culcheth on a Manchester Piccadilly - Southport service. The second one is a debranded ex Great Western set.






Colas Rail class 60, 60085 is next, hauling the Carlisle - Chirk logs working  at Carlisle, on 08 May 2018.








DRS class 66, 66426 is depicted on a Carlisle - Crewe engineers train. The location was Carlisle and the date, 08 May 2018.








DB (EWS livery) class 90, 90039 is pictured at Leeds on 08 May 2018, on the rear of a Leeds - Kings Cross service. The 90 was helping out with a shortage of 91s.







This next shot from Jeff shows an interesting signal box bridging the tracks. The main DMU 142 086, is departing Hexham for Nunthorpe via Newcastle, Sunderland and Middlesbrough on 26 April 2018.






The pair of Colas Rail class 56s - 56302 and 56113 - are shown leaving Preston Docks with empty tar tankers for Lyndsey Oil Terminal on 02 May 2018.







Freightliner class 66, 66603 is pictured passing Church Fenton with a Redcar - Fiddlers Ferry P.S. coal working. The pic is dated 26 April 2018.







DB (EWS livery) class 67, 67008 is at Winwick Junction on 25 April 2018. The working was an early morning Chester - Manchester passenger service.








The final shot from Jeff and for this post was taken at Preston on 02 May 2018. Top and Tailing DRS class 68s - 68003 Astute and 68004 Rapid - were leaving with a service for Barrow. Lots of noise, smoke and phenomenal acceleration.
