A Spring Miscellany

Today's post, 5th May 2015, comprises another 22 shots featuring many classes of locomotion - steam, diesel and electric. Six contributors have supplied the pictures.

Our first three pics are from Jeff Nicholls.   His first was taken on the South Devon Railway (SDR) at Buckfastleigh and shows ex GWR, Collett 'Goods' 0-6-0 tender locomotive, No.3205 with a short working of two, six-wheeled milk tanks and a passenger full brake coach. Jeff has re-created a bygone era by reverting to monochrome. The pic is dated 14th April 2015.





A similar treatment from Jeff was applied to his next shot of ex L&YR class '27' 0-6-0 tender locomotive, No. 12322 (52322), in LMS livery. The Heywood - Rawtenstall service was photographed leaving Irwell Vale station on the ELR. The pic is dated 17th April 2015.







Jeff's third shot was taken at Red Bank on 22nd April 2014. Featured is EWS (DBS) class 66, 66154 working a gypsum train, Newbiggin - FFPS.








Next are four shots sent in by Ieuan Wood. First up is the DBS Drax liveried class 60, 60066, on an empty steel flats working, Seaforth - Tinsley, on 1st May 2015 at Whiston.









Next from Ieuan is Colas Rail Freight class 56, 56087, on a Sinfin-Grangemouth working of fuel tanks. The location was Winwick and the date, 30th April 2015.








Ieuan's third shot features Virgin Rail class 390, 390109 on a diverted Euston - Liverpool Pendolino service through Rainhill, on 3rd May 2015.










The fourth and final shot from Ieuan shows GBRf class 66, 66750 on a Tuebrook - Ironbridge working at Rainhill on 4th May 2015.









David Wood is our next contributor with four pics. His first shows GBRf class 66, 66721 Harry Beck (detailed in earlier posts), at Whiston, on 23rd February 2015.









GBRf class 66, 66749 is pictured next by David, on 28th April 2015. The location was Whiston again.









Next from David is Northern Electrics emu  class 319, 319365 at Whiston, on 21st April 2015.










A Northern Rail dmu class 150 is shown in David's fourth and final shot. 150204 is pictured from Ravenhead Road, St Helens on 28th April 2015.









A trio from Alan Rigby is next. The 'Northern Belle' liveried class 47, 47790 Galloway Princess is first, taken at Great Yarmouth (working from Norwich) on 8th April 2015. The loco was working a short set substitution for a dmu.








Alan's second pic shows DRS class 47, 47818 working the tail of the above train (47790 at the head), on the same date.










The third shot from Alan was taken at Bradley (north of Wigan) on 27th April 2015. EWS (DBS) class 66, 66122 is featured on a Carnforth - Wembley empty coaching stock move in readiness for a Round Britain Railtour starting in London, on 28th April 2015.







David Quayle has sent in the following five shots, all from his latest visit to the ELR for the 'Small Engines Weekend'. His first shows preserved class 73, Bo-Bo electro-diesel, 73001 (E6001) on loan from the Dean Forest Railway. The location was Bury and the date, 19th April 2015.







Shot number two from David depicts ex L&YR class '27', 0-6-0 tender locomotive, of John Aspinall No.12322 (BR 52322) at Bury on the same date.









Featured next is the famous Haydock Colliery locomotive Bellerophon or 'Owd Bell' as she was known She is a 0-6-0WT (Well Tank) locomotive built by Josiah Evans in 1868. Evans introduced the piston valve to British locomotive design which gave the locomotive an important place in railway history. The location and date are the same as above.





Ex Hunslet Austerity 0-6-0ST Sapper (WD132) is up next also taken at Bury on 19th April 2015; class 08 diesel 13594 (08479) is on the tail.









David's fifth and final shot features several locos -13594, WD132 Sapper and class 14s, D9537 and D9531, all at Bury on the same date, 19th April 2015.








Geoff Monks brings an end to this post with three shots. Freightliner class 66, 66606, is up first photographed between Lostock Gralam and Plumley on a Westbury - Tunstead empty cement tanks working. The pic is dated 20th April 2015.








Arriva liveried class 67, 67001 is next, pictured at Helsby with a Manchester Piccadilly - Llandudno service on the same date, 20th April 2015.









Geoff's third pic features double heading class 90s on a Mossend - Daventry intermodal working at Acton Bridge, on 21st April 2015. Pictured are DBS 90036 Driver Jack Mills and EWS (DBS), 90026.
