Jeff Nicholls has sent in our first two pics. Pic number one shows EWS (DBS) class 66, 66250, heading empty Avonmouth - Clitheroe cement tanks on 21st September 2013. The location was Winwick

Another EWS (DBS) class 66, 66008, is featured in Jeff's second shot on the Wigan Springs Branch 'wagons for repair' working. Winwick was the location and 18th September, the date.

'Western' class 52 diesel, D1015 Western Champion, was through Winwick on 21st September 2013 with a Tyseley - Carlisle 'Special' . This shot is from Ieuan Wood. Preserved class 47, 47773, was behind the 'Western'.

David Wood has sent in pics four and five. DRS class 66, 66426, is shown on a northbound intermodal service (the 'Russell') through Winwick on 18th September 2013.

A similar intermodal working, the southbound 'Malcolm', is featured in pic five from David. The loco was DRS class 66, 66305, the location was Winwick and the date was 18th September 2013.

Bob McClellan has sent in the following three pics. Pic eight is of a Guinness liveried class 08 diesel shunter, 08022 Lion, taken at Wallingford on the Cholsey & Wallingford Railway. The pic is dated 31st August 2013. A giant harp is positioned on the front grill of the locomotive.
BR 'Standard' class '4' 2-6-4T, No.80104, is pictured next in Bob's second shot, number nine overall. This shot was taken from Corfe Castle on the Swanage Railway, the date - 4th September 2013.

Another Cholsey & Wallingford Railway pic is next from Bob. Class 08, 08123 George Mason, is pictured heading 'The Bunk' special, part of the music, beer and dance festival (Bunkfest) held at Wallingford. The pic is dated 31st August 2013.
Our final pic is from Colin Platt. Taken at the recent Llangollen Gala, Colin's shot shows ex GWR '2884' class 2-8-0, No.3802, at Berwyn Station with a passenger service on 31st August 2012.

Pics from England, Wales, Scotland and Germany
Today's post, 17th September 2013, covers shots taken many miles apart at Winwick, Swanage, Stafford, Llanfairpwyl, Loch Dubh and Asmannshausen. Eighteen pics are used from just five contributors.
WINWICK
First up are four shots from Jeff Nicholls. Pic number one shows the Stanier Pacific No.46233 Duchess of Sutherland on the her '75th Anniversary' Special which ran Perth - Sheffield on day 2. The pic is dated 7th September 2013 and the location was Winwick. Note the headboard which is in the style of 'The Caledonian' (ran Euston - Glasgow between 1957-1964).

Next, pic number two from Jeff, features DRS class 66, 66431, on the Mossend - Daventry intermodal passing through Winwick on 4th September 2013.

The Gresley 'K4' class 2-6-0, No.61994 The Great Marquess is up next, in pic number three, again from Jeff. The railtour was 'The Welsh Mountaineer' which ran Preston - Blaenau Ffestiniog and return on 3rd September 2013.

Pic ten from David features the Gresley class 'K4' 2-6-0 again, No.61994 The Great Marquess, this one taken at Runcorn East. 'The Welsh Mountaineer' was on its return journey to Preston from Blaenau Ffestiniog on 20th August 2013.

A Network Rail train is up next, pic number twelve, again from Jeff. Top (67016) and Tail (67026) were pictured at Acton Bridge on two Derby-Derby runs, via Liverpool Lime Street, on 4th September 2013.

Pic thirteen is from Colin Platt. Pictured at the recent Llangollen Festival is double heading ex GWR 'Manor' class 4-6-0s, No 7822 Foxcote Manor and 7812 Erlestoke Manor. The location was Carrog and the date, 31st August 2013.
Geoff Monks has sent in the next three pics. They are all scans from Kodachrome 25 slides... how good was that film!!!! Pic fourteen probably, says Geoff, "was the luxury train that ran round Scotland from time to time with steam from Fort William to Mallaig". It was headed by ex LNER Thompson 2-6-0 'K1' class loco, No.2005 (formerley 62005) crossing the River Lochy in a rainstorm. The pic is dated 19th August 1987.

Two shots in this section, both from David Wood. Pic number seventeen shows two German locomotives side by side at Weringerode in the Hartz Mountains. They are 99 7235-7 and 99 7232-4. The pic is dated 11th August 2013.
The final pic, also from David, depicts a local emu service in the Rhine Valley at Asmannshausen on 12th August 2013. This is pic eighteen.

Fourteen locos; Eleven Pics
Today's post, 6th September 2013, comprises eleven pictures from just five contributors covering fourteen locomotives of mixed traction and gauge.
WINWICK
First up are three August dated pics from Jeff Nicholls. Pic one shows double heading Freightliner electric locos of class 86, 86613 and 86612 passing through Winwick with a Coatbridge - Crewe intermodal. The pic is dated 24th August 2013.

Jeff's second pic features WCRC class 57, 57316 on the rear of a Newport - Ravenglass charter. The location was Bank Quay, the date was 24th August 2013 and WCRC class 57, 57314, was at the head (can't be seen).

Two steam locos open this section, both from Jeff Nicholls again. In pic number four, ex LNER 'Mogul' (2-6-0) No.61306 heads to its base at Washwood Heath from the Mid Norfolk Railway. The location was Nuneaton and the date, 27th August 2013.

Geoff Monks has sent in pic number ten. It is a shot of Utrillas, imported from a Spanish coal mine arriving at Becconsall Station on the West Lancashire Light Railway. The date was 1st September 2013. The loco was built by Orenstein & Koppel of Berlin, in 1907.

Following my request for Scottish railway pics Mark Tombs has sent in a couple - here is one of them, pic number twelve. Two WCRC class 37s are pictured at Kyle of Lochalsh on 12th August 2005. WCRC bought four from Ian Riley in the same year including 37197 and 37261, which may be the two in the picture.

'Pics of the Month, July 2013' - RESULTS
Well done to Ieuan Wood and Colin Platt, the winners of our July monthly competition. Their pics and those of Winwick runners up are shown below in today's post, 3rd September 2013.

Ieuan's shot features ex LMS Stanier 'Black Five', No.44932, with support coach. The location was Winwick and the date, 1st July 2013.
2nd July W7 Geoff Monks
Colas Rail class 56s, 56105 and 56087, double heading the Carlisle - Chirk logs working are pictured in this shot from Geoff. The location was the old Cheshire Lines bridge adjacent to Froghall Lane, Warrington; the date was 11th July 2013.
3rd July W12 Colin Platt
Colin's pic shows ex BR 'Standard' class '7' 4-6-2, No.70013 Oliver Cromwell on a Southall - Crewe - Castleton Hopwood GF (Bury) move. On the Southall - Crewe leg 70013 was accompanied by Bullied 'BoB' class 4-6-2, No.34067 Tangmere. Both locos had diesel support; 70013 was 'pushed' by WCRC class 47, 47245, from Crewe. The location was Newton-le-Willows Station and the date, 25th July 2013.
ALTERNATIVE UK PICS

Colin's shot shows ex LMS Stanier 'Princess Coronation' class 4-6-2, No.46233 Duchess of Sutherland heading the Liverpool - Carlisle 'Cumbrian Mountain Express'. The location was Eccleston Park, Prescot and the date, 27th July 2013.
Colin's shot was a clear winner with 8 points but eight other shots tied for second place with 3 points each, therefore none are shown. They were A1, 8, 10, 12, 20, 21, 22 and 26. The spread of points in this section was unprecedented even though only seven persons bothered to vote. If this latter situation continues there will be no competitions next year as there are more important things I can do with my time.
I will post some remaining August dated pics in the next post. Following this voting for August can begin.
