This is the last post, 1st January 2012, in the current 'Alternative Photographs' series. Once again ten pics are used and nine photographers are represented.
First up is another of David Quayle's shots from around the preserved railways. This one was taken on the GCR on 29th January 2011 at Quorn & Woodhouse. Featured is the last of a batch of twenty three, '2884' class 2-8-0 locos built in 1942 at Swindon, No.3850.
Next, pic number two, is from Matthew Chambers. DRS class 37, 37409 Lord Hinton, is pictured at Barrow Hill on 25th September 2010.
Pic number three is from Bob McClellan. DBS Class 60, 60099, in TATA Steel branding, is shown at Plumley on 4th April 2011.
David Quayle has sent in a second pic for this post, number four. Ex LNER 'Q6' class 0-8-0 of Vincent Raven is shown at Grosmont on the North Yorkshire Railway. David's pic is dated 2009.
Barry Rigby's shot of BR 'Standard' class '7' No.70013 Oliver Cromwell, number five, is of historical significance. After heading the last steam train in 1968, Barry photographed the 'Brit' on the turntable at Lostock Hall MPD ready for its run, light engine, to Bressingham, and into preservation. The 'Fifteen Guinea Special', as the train was called, ran Liverpool -Manchester Victoria headed by 'Black 5', No.45110. At Manchester 70013 took over to head the train to Carlisle. On the return leg, double heading 'Black 5s' Nos 44781 and 44871 ran to Manchester where 'Black 5' No.45110 took over for the last run to Liverpool.
The popular china clay working is featured next in pic number six, from Alan Rigby. The location was Chorlton, the date was 13th July 2011 and the working was Dollands Moor - Irvine.
Colin Platt's shot of BR 'Standard' class '9F' 2-10-0, No.92214 Cock O' The North, is shown next, pic number seven. The location was Pickering on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway and the date, 30th September 2011.
We havn't had many pics of 'Crabs' on the blog but here is one taken at the East Lancs Railway on 26th June 1996. The pic, number eight, was taken by David Wood. Hughes/Fowler 2-6-0, No.42765, is the featured loco.
Pic number nine is from John Smith. Ex NCB 0-4-0 ST loco is shown at the Chasewater Railway Gala on 19th March 2011.
The final pic in this post is one of my own 'golden oldies' from 1962. Standing at the Wolverhampton Stafford Road coaling tower is 'Grange' class 4-6-0, No.6854 Roundhill Grange.
May I take this opportunity to wish all our contributors and viewers/readers A HAPPY NEW YEAR for 2012, and a prosperous one.
