One Train, Three Locomotives

Today's post, 27th June 2011, comprises two, extraordinary pics from Alan Rigby.

Pic number one shows the front of an empty stock move, Gloucester - Carnforth, with WCRC class 57, 57601 at the head.

If you weren't expecting it a surprise appeared on the tail of the same working. Two DRS class 20s, 20308 and 20309, were on the rear. The shots were both, of course,  taken at Winwick on 26th June 2011.

From July 1st 2011, I will open the blog to pics taken anywhere in the the UK or the world, repeating the popular changes made in December 2010. Send me those 'gems'. In the meantime I have several 'Winwick' pics banked and will use some of these in the next two posts. Please be patient if you have banked pics; 790 have been used to date, over 90%  of all pics contributed.

One each from Classes 57, 59 and 92

In today's post, 25th June 2011, we welcome back another contributor who has been 'absent' for a while, David Wood.

His first pic shows 'Bart the Spark' EWS (DBS) class 92, 92017 Bart the Engine in the famous Stobart livery. The loco was on the Tesco intermodal working through Winwick on 21st June 2011.

David's second shot depicts light engine class 57, 57309 Thunderbirds BRAINS, in Virgin livery, at Earlestown on  21st June 2011.

The third shot in this set is another pictorial effort from Jeff Nicholls. Captured close to 12 Arches is EWS (DBS) class 59, 59202 Vale of White Horse on a Liverpool Bulk Terminal - Fiddlers Ferry Power Station working on 14th June 2011.

Three Class 47s, a Class 60 and a Class 92.

Today, 22nd June 2011, four different photographers are featured and three locations.

Pic number one is another from Daniel Irwin. Shown is Colas class 47, 47739 Robin of Templecombe, heading south through Winwick with track machine DR73909 in tow. The working was Penrith - Rugby and the date, 31st May 2011.

Next up is a pic from Alan Rigby. The location is Golborne and the working, Mossend - Hams Hall. Featured is EWS (DBS) class 92, 92019 Wagner, on intermodal duty  although the front wagons are obviously empty. The pic is another dated 31st May 2011.

The next two pics are from the most regular contributors to our blog. John Smith's shot depicts two West Coast Railway Company (WCRC) class 47s on an empty stock move through Winwick on 3rd June 2011. At the head is the advertising-laden 47804; 47826 is on the tail.

The final shot is from Jeff Nicholls, taken from a rather clever location at Arpley, using the approach road bridge as a frame. The loco is EWS (DBS) class 60, 60015, Bow Fell.

Three Classes

Today's post, 13th June 2011, comprises three pics from a young man, Daniel Irwin, who hasn't posted for a while because of his Hull University commitments.

Daniel's first pic features EWS (DBS) class 66, 66121 on a ballast working at Dallam on 23rd April 2011. The line was closed for the day.

Pic number two shows the EWS (DBS) class 67, 67006  Royal Sovereign, heading 'Royal' passenger stock through through Winwick, northbound, on 27th April 2011. Daniel thinks that the working was to Edinburgh to pick up Prince Charles - the Royal wedding was two days later.

Daniel's final pic is of Freightliner 'PowerHaul' class 70, 70011, on a coal working exiting Fiddlers Ferry Power Station. The pic is dated 7th June 2011.

There will be no more posts until the weekend as I am away until then. Please keep sending in your contributions and I will deal with them when I get back.

Class 50

We havn't had many pics of class 50 locos on the blog but we have one in this post, 8th June 2011.

Three 'Tugs'

This post, 5th June 2011, comprises three pics of class 60 locomotives from three different photographers. The 100, class 60 locomotives were introduced onto BR metals between 1989 and 1993, built by Brush Traction of Loughborough. They were built initially for BR, but taken over by EWS (English, Welsh and Scottish Railway) in 1996, followed by D. B. Schenker in 2007.

First up is Ken Young's shot of EWS (DBS) class 60, 60049, on Fiddlers Ferry Power Station coal duty, through Winwick, on 8th April 2011.

The second pic is from Paul Holland. Featured is EWS (DBS) class 60, 60040 The Territorial Army Centenary, heading another coal working. The location is the low level line at Slutchers Lane and the date, 3rd June 2011.

Tug 85, MINI Pride of Oxford, is shown next in a shot by yours truly. This was a steel working, Arpley - Liverpool Steel Terminal, taken on 7th April 2010. The location was Winwick.

Note the similarity with the class 92 body shell, and that none of these 'tugs' are liveried in DBS colours.

I featured a John Smith pic of a 'Northern Belle' empty stock move in the 28th May post and here is a pic, number two, showing the main loco in close up - DRS class 47, 47790 Northern Belle, in the 'Belle's' new livery. Location was Winwick.

Pic number three is another from Ken Young. Treble heading DRS class 37s, 37607, 37602 and 37603, are shown heading a single spent nuclear fuel flask through Bank Quay on 20th April 2011.

The fourth pic is from Jeff Nicholls. Another flasks working is featured with 4 flasks (making five altogether in this post) being hauled by two DRS class 20s, 20309 and 20303. The location was Winwick, the date, 31st May 2011.

The fifth and final shot is from Alan Bailey. Colas Rail liveried class 47, 47739 Robin of Templecombe, is depicted with a stone blower track machine, DR73909, on 31st May 2011 at Golborne.
