Mix of Steam and Diesel traction

As a result of increased contributions recently, today's post 26th June 2015, follows on quickly from the previous example. Another sixteen shots are included from five photographers.


WINWICK & ELSEWHERE


First up today are two images from Ieuan Wood.  Red bank is the location for Ieuan's first shot taken on 22nd June 2015. Pictured is DRS class 68, 68003 Astute, on an engineers' working







Ieuan's second shot shows Colas Rail class 60, 60087 CLIC Sargent on the logs working , also at Red Bank on the same date, 22nd June 2015.








David Wood has sent in the next shot, of the 'Northern Belle', passing through Whiston on 26th June 2015. At the head is DRS class 57, 57305 Northern Princess with DRS class 57, 57312 Solway Princess, on the tail.







Next are five shots from Alan Rigby. First, is a Winwick shot from 25th June 2015. The four locomotive consist was travelling Carlisle Kingmoor - Crewe Gresty Bridge. The locos were - DRS class 57, 57309 Pride of Crewe; DRS class 57, 57312 Solway Princess, DRS class 66, 66431 and DRS (nuclear traffic) class 37, 37688.







Alan's second shot features Stanier 'Jubilee' class 4-6-0 No. 45699 Leander, at Oxenholme Station, on 30th May 2015. The working was Carnforth - Carlisle - Carnforth.










The third of Alan's pics shows DRS (nuclear traffic) class 37, 37218, leaving Preston Station for Barrow on 22nd June 2015.










Colas Rail class 60, 60095 is up next from Alan.  It is pictured coming off the docks branch at Preston working Preston Docks - Lyndsey empty tanks. The pic is dated 22nd June 2015.









Alan's final shot was taken at Settle Station on 23rd June 2015. Depicted is Colas Rail class 60, 60087 CLIC Sargent, working logs traffic, Carlisle - Chirk.









Next are three shots from Colin Platt's visit to the SVR in March, following on from the previous post. First, is 'large Prairie' class 2-8-0T No.4270 owned by Jeremy Hosking and resident at the GWR (Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway), pictured on the SVR on 21st March 2015.












Second shot from Colin features Ivatt class '4' 2-6-0, No. 43106  standing at Bewdley on 20th March 2015, on the SVR's 50th Anniversary.










Colin's final shot, number three, shows the same loco with a 'Footplate Experience' headboard on the previous day, 19th March 2015.













Jeff Nicholls has sent in the final five pics. First up is a vertical shot of double heading DRS class 66s, 66301 and 66425, on the Tescos' intermodal passing through Bank Quay on 23rd June 2015.











Jeff's second shot, also in the 'portrait' format, features the 'Northern Belle' railtour approaching Helsby on 21st June 2015. Leading is 57310 Pride of Cumbria with 57306 on the other end











The same railtour is pictured in Jeff's third shot, taken as the train is about to  traverse Frodsham Viaduct on the same date, 21st June 2015. 57310 is visible at the head of the train with 57306 on the tail.









Jeff's fourth shot depicts  GBRf class 66, 66761, descending the bank from Earlestown to Winwick Junction with a biomass working, on 20th June 2015.








The final shot in this post, and the fifth example from Jeff, shows Gresley 'A4' class 4-6-2 No.60009 Union of South Africa at Dallam sidings on 17th June 2015. The loco had failed with a hot box during a test run, a few days earlier. As you can see, Jeff was faced with dreadful weather.

SVR re-visited and two 'Contre jour' Specials..

Today's post, 22nd June 2015, comprises fifteen photographs from four contributors. Unfortunately the number of contributors has fallen in 2015- if you or your friends have any railway photographs you would like to see on the blog please send them to me with an appropriate description.  Everyone who has sent in pics for the blog over our 5.5 years existence has had at least one shot posted. Don't hesitate, just send them to me at the email address at the top of the blog.



WINWICK & ELSEWHERE



First up today are six March shots from Colin Platt - better late than never - taken on the SVR.  Pic number one features a superb double heading duo of Collett '14xx' class 0-4-2 tank No.1450 and ex London Transport 0-6-0 pannier tank No.L92 on a passenger service from Bewdley. The '57xx' class pannier tanks of Charles Collett lasted longer than most on the GWR; No.5786 was one of several sold to London Transport. She survived, working engineers' trains around the LT system until steam ended at Neasden shed on the Metropolitan Line, in 1971. The loco was re-numbered L.92 and painted in LT livery of lined maroon. The pic is dated 21st March 2015.




Next is Colin's shot of  Churchward '2800' class 2-8-0 No.2857 at Eardington on 21st March 2015 on another passenger service.










Number three from Colin shows Churchward 'prairie' tank '4500' class 2-6-2, No.4566, with an ex GWR autocoach at Bridgnorth.










Ex WD 'Austerity' 2-8-0 No. 90733 of Robert Riddles is up next in Colin's fourth pic. The K&WVR loco was working a passenger service near Highley on the SVR, on 20th March 2015.










Number five from Colin, another from the SVR, depicts Bulleid 'Battle of Britain' class 4-6-2, No.34053 Sir Keith Parke on a passenger service on 20th March 2015.











Colin's final shot shows the same loco. No 34053 pictured through a gap between a box van and a locomotive. The nameplate is highlighted in this way. The pic is dated 19th March 2015.









Geoff Monks has sent in the next two pics of the Northern Rail class 37 loco-hauled trains in Cumbria on 11th June 2015. The first shows DRS class 37 No.37402 Stephen Middlemore 23.12.1954 - 8.6.2013, on a Carlisle -Barrow working between St Bees and Nethertown.  St Bees South Head is prominent.







The second shot from Geoff  depicts DRS class 37, 37609 between Braystones and Nethertown on a Barrow - Carlisle working.









Ieuan Wood has sent in the next shot of the Northern Belle railtour, taken on 21st June 2015. The working was Liverpool Lime St - Chester - Barrow and  return. Pictured is DRS class 57, 57306 at St Helens Junction.










The final six shots are from Jeff Nicholls. First up is a shot of a 'skip' -  EWS (DRS) class 67, 67022 - passing the historic Chat Moss Hotel at Glazebury on a Manchester - Holyhead working. The ticket office for the station was once located on the upper floor of the building. The pic is dated 9th June 2015.








Next is Jeff's shot of GBRf class 66, 66729 at Winwick Junction on 5th June 2015. The working was empty biomass.














Number three from Jeff is EWS (DRS) class 66, 66169 on a Clitheroe-Bescot cement train photographed from Vulcan Recreation Ground. The date was 28th May 2015.







EWS (DBS) class 90, 90029 is up next from Jeff  on the Euston - Carnforth leg of the 'Cumbrian Mountain Express'.  The train was to be taken over at Carnforth by' Royal Scot' class 4-6-0, No.46115 Scots Guardsman. The pic is dated 6th June 2015.








The final two shots from Jeff are both backlit or contre jour examples of artistic merit. . The first was taken at Winwick Junction on 5th June 2015 and shows EWS (DBS) class 66, 66036 on a Doncaster - Arpley working.







Pic six from Jeff, and sixteen overall, was taken on 25th March 2015. Pictured is signal WN154 which protects Winwick Junction - another 'different' shot.

'Britannia', the 'Earl' and the 'Marquess'

Today's post, 9th June 2016, comprises 16 shots from four contributors including two of ex BR's Britannia , another of ex GWR's, Earl of Mount Edgcumbe and another of ex LNER's The Great Marquess.

The first five pics are from Ieuan Wood.  Pictured first is EWS (DBS) class 66, 66109 at Whiston  on a Liverpool-Salisbury working. The pic is dated 25th May 2015









Ieuan's second shot features DBS class 67, 67026 Diamond Jubilee on the tail of the above working.











The third shot from Ieuan shows the ex GWR 'Castle' class 4-6-0 No.5043 Earl of Mount Edgcumbe in charge of the 'Seaside Flyer ' running Llandudno - Tysely on 23rd May 2015.










The following two shots were taken at Bank Quay by Ieuan on 30th May 2015. Pictured first is DBS class 90, 90019 on the 'Cumbrian Mountain Express'.










Next, from Ieuan, is ex BR class '7' 4-6-2, No.70000 Britannia, on the Bristol - Appleby 'Cumbrian Fells' railtour.










Shot number six is from David Wood. Depicted is GBRf class 66, 66750 on 30th May 2015 at Bank Quay, with a Liverpool - Ironbridge working.









The follow six shots are from Jeff Nicholls. Pictured first is ex BR class '7' No.70000 Britannia on the Appleby - Bristol railtour. The pic is dated 30th May 2015.








Jeff's second pic features double heading Freightliner class 86s' 86605 and 86609 at Red Bank on 28th May 2015. The working was Coatbridge - Crewe.








Next is the much photographed Arriva liveried class 67, 67001 at Winwick Junction on a Manchester Piccadilly - Holyhead working. The pic is dated 20th May 2015.








Taken at Red Bank on the same date was Jeff's shot of Freightliner class 66, 66527 Don Raider. The working was FFPS- Hunterston empty coal hoppers.









Shot number five from Jeff shows DRS class 57, 57306 (tail) with (out of shot) 57312 (top) on the Coventry - Oxenholme 'Northern Belle'. The location was Red Bank and the date 22nd May 2015.








Last but not least from Jeff is shot number six of EWS (DBS) class 66, 66030 on the Arpley - Springs Branch 'Wigan Wagons'. The pic was taken at Winwick Junction on 20th May 2015.








Colin Platt has sent in the next four shots all taken on the NYMR, Pic number one was taken at Beck Hole on 26th April 2015. Pictured is ex LMS Stanier 'Black Five', No.45407 The Lancashire Fusilier on a passenger working.









Colin's second shot was taken at Levisham on 26th April 2015, and shows Thompson/Peppercorn class 'K1' 2-6-0, No. 62005, on a passenger service.









Number three from Colin features the 'Pocket Rocket'  - ex BR 'Standard' class '4' 2-6-0, No.76079 - at Goathland on 24th April 2015. Adjacent is Gresley 'K4' class 2-6-0 No.61944 The Great Marquess with another passenger service.
